hi there,

i just installed jas 10.4.8 jas sse2 / sse3 with ppf1 & ppf2 with 10.4.9 combo update, but i can't boot from the partition :S

i know i had this problem when i tried to install jas 10.4.7 for the first time, but that's long ago and i dont remember how i solved it -.-'

i use powerquest boot magic 7. when i restore the disk image from the old 10.4.7 install it works but as soon as i install the jas 10.4.8 i cant boot any more...

so what do i have to do?

thanks for the help!

greets & thx,

soomon

ah i forgot: during the installation he said he couldn't set the partition as active, i did this with partition magic, but this didn't help :-/

Try to set the partition primary, active, with Partition Magic or similar utility (GParted, for instance)

And then when you install erase the partition you are going to use with Disk Utility. That should do the trick.

hi,

the partition is primary,

problem seems to be ins eetting the partition active.

fdisk says the partition cant be set as active.

partition magic wan that there are 2 active partitions but seems it doesnt do that :S

gparted also doesn't show any option to set it as active.

any other idea?

thanks & greets,

heyho,

yeah i use hirens boot cd, partition magic shows me that the partition is active AND primary.

mac os wont boot though :/

pm shows: hidden fat32 (windows)

extended

nfts

Type AF 9gb of 9gb used Active Primary

any ideas? :/

edit: I'm not sure if it really is the active thing anymore.

because when i put a backup of my old osx on that partition it boots without any problem.

but putting a partitionimage to a partition doesn't change the mbr right?

so ist has to do sth. with the partitoin itself??

i can boot the installed osx from the cd with rd=disk0s3 but that can't be the solution all the time :S

may this http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...%20MBR&st=0 be the solution though i have jas 10.4.8 with ppf1 & ppf2??

the cain0 thing only shows "chainload error" -.-'

does booting from the cd wth "rd=disk0s3" use the cd kernel or the kernel installed on the hard drive as it was booted normally?

do all drivers installed on the system load normallly?

It's a known problem that osx doesn't like to be placed in a primary partition after the extended partition.

Unfortunately some low-grade guides do not point out that problem.

A solution would be to move partitions around so that the osx primary is physically situated before the extended partition.

(If after this you still have a problem, it might be because your partitioning client didn't properly sort the partitions in the partition table, and the osx partition number is still after that of the extended. But that's rare, as good partition software can take care of renumbering the partitions.)
