NUCLEaR
I am another one of those idiots who posted an error thread on the infamous Still Waiting for root device". Anyway, I'm special in this case (different stats) Dell Dimension E521 (AMD x86-64) SCSI HD (No clue if SATA or not) Using Uphuck's v1.3 10.4.9 release (MD5 checked - works) Note: I have NO IDEA how to reconnect stuff inside my box. I am scared to go down there unless I really have to, and this is one of those cases. I also have NO IDEA how to work with the .kext stuff you talk about so much. I am beyond noob in this. I have one (1) HD (250GB) with two (2) partitions, one with Vista, and a 20GB I made for Mac. The diskpart active partition that's active right now is 1. I have tried the following methods: Booting with -x, -f ,-v Booting with the second partition active in diskpart Booting with the first partition active in diskpart Booting with all my USB stuff plugged out Booting with all my USB stuff plugged in Booting with my iPod plugged in These are the contents of my DVD (Yes, hidden folders are visible, but there are none here): BOOT BOOT0 BOOT1U CDBOOT BOOT.CAT BOOT1H BOOTHELP.TXT CHAIN0 The guide that I used for the installation is at http://coolblog.profit42.com/2007/06/23/os...-intel-and-amd/ I only have one (1) hard drive. No USB drives, externals, flash drives, or anything that has the word drive in it. And the final line in every one of these posts: Please help. ~NUCLEaR PS: Is it actually possible to reconnect the insides of my box on a Dell? thegodfaza
You may want to find out if your HD connector is SATA or PATA. It is important for certain things. So open your box, find HD. If the connector looks like a USB connector then it's SATA. If it looks like a long rectangle with a ribbon cable its PATA. I'll take another look at this tomorrow. Good luck. NUCLEaR
Last time I checked, I couldn't really see my HD. I'll open up the box tomorrow since today, I'm afraid I'll vomit on it. I had too much coffee today and I feel like I could throw up any second. I don't even know how I coughed up my first post... Although most of my other connectors (DVD Drives and my ATI card) look like ribbons. thegodfaza
ATI as in graphics card? Graphics cards don't use ribbon cables. They use either AGP or PCI ports on your motherboard. I'll post a pic of what your looking for. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/55889-still-waiting-for-root-device/#findComment-400145 Share on other sites

bilybrown
Make sure the jumper on your dvd drive is set to master. I thought this seemed absurd when i had the same problem, but it worked. If you don't know what that means, on the back of your dvd drive, where the ribbon thing plugs in. there should be a little area with six pins looks like ::: two of them will have a little plastic piece going between them (only vertically) it should say somewhere on the drive which setting is master, then you just pull out the little plastic piece and move it. for example I:I:: if the bracket is around the first two pins it might be set as a slave or drive selector drive and you will need to move the bracket (jumper) to the master setting (E.G. ::I:I) I hope that makes sense. NUCLEaR
i'll try that (if i see it) my drive is kinda hidden over there. But it's worth it. NUCLEaR
I just opened up my box, and it was easy to locate the data cords on my 2 DVD drives. One led to a plug that said "SATA2". I switched it to SATA1. Didn't work. Then my second DVD Drive led to a plug that was below my Hard Drive's plug (which isn't PATA like i thought) The 2 plugs have no words above or below them, but I switched em anyway. Didn't work. I'll have my box open for the next hour or so, then I have to go.
