Fridgerator
Is it just me or is the new macbook hard drive only 111 Gb? I swear it reads 120Gb on the site. Missing 9Gb is quite a bit Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/55785-new-macbook-hard-drive/ Share on other sites
Taylor_C
That'd be the space OS X takes up. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/55785-new-macbook-hard-drive/#findComment-399044 Share on other sites
erbic
It may be the space OS X takes up, but it's also because of the discrepancy between reported and actual size. Manufacturers usually report one gigabyte as being one billion bytes, while the operating system reads a gigabyte as being a bit more than that. This discrepancy can be enough to cause the size difference you see. I have a Macbook Pro with a "120 GB" hard drive, and it's only seen as 111. So it's not isolated to your computer or anything. alloutmacstoday
exactly. an actual gigabyte is 1,073,741,824 bytes. they report it as 1,000,000,000 bytes. when you figure out the difference for 120 gigabytes, it's about 8.2 gigabytes Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/55785-new-macbook-hard-drive/#findComment-399068 Share on other sites
