7600GS Upgrade

Hello,

From what I have seen this card will work well with my system and it's an affordable price. I won't be doing anything to push the card, other then running dual screens in Digidesign ProTools. From what I can see dual display and spanning works quite well with this card!

Here is my current system I'm building, hopefully the 7600GS 256MB PCI-E will be a nice addition.

Should I do a complete re-install with the new GCard or should I keep my current install and just add the GCard?

Thanks, below is the system it will be running in.

JaS 10.4.8

Intel D945GTP Mobo

Pentium D 915 2.8GHz

GMA950 Upgrade to 7600GS 256MB PCI-E

3GB DDR2 667MHz

400GB SATA HDD

DVD-RW Lightscribe IDE (Master)

CD-RW IDE (Slave)

Asus WL-138G V2 Wireless PCI (Airport Express)

Digidesign M-Box 2 Mini USB Audio Interface

You shouldn't need to reinstall everything just for the card. I recently switched from an ATi X800 to an nVidia 7600GT, and all I did was install the Natit drivers and remove the Callisto ones.

Isn't it possible to do dual display with your GMA950 and a add-1 card?

Anyway, it's a good buy, the 7600gs, I got it, and I can heartily recommend it!

Hi Mate,

An ADD2 card would definitely work, but I would have to order it in to Australia. By the time I spend the money I might aswell get the 7600GS.

Make my system run smoother, and let me run Final Cut Studio 2 aswell.

Thanks for your reply.

Our systems are almost identical Synaesthesia!

Wow, exceedingly so!

I like my computer, OS X has shown me how good it can be!

The 7600gs is a great upgrade, IMO. The general interface feels snappier overall, expose and dock shrinking/magnifications are smoother and faster as well.

Programs like Chocoflop render WAY faster, and I can play games, and it was cheap.

AND it supports dual-screen. So what's not to like?
