New board = New OS X install?

Should I be able to simply connect everything and run with it as long as I have the latest OS X install? Or do I have to reinstall OS X after the new motherboard installation?

I hope not! But then again that could give me a chance to start all over for a Parallels based system.

  • 2 weeks later...

i had 10.4.6 installed, and i blew up my motherboard (unrelated to osx of course). anyway i replaced the motherboard with a different type, i think the original one was an intel 915 and the new one was intle 945. When i started up the computer for the 1st time after the new motherboard install osx worked still, this was a while ago, but i think i may of had to mess around with things to get everything working perfectly, but ive since done a complete re-install of osx and found that its working a lot better now, so my answer is, if you get a new board osx probably will still work, but in my case the system ran better if i did a full re install.

it just works. no issues, nothing.

maybe you have to tweak sound, networking, usual stuff, if not compatible already.

i've moved from intel dp965lt to ga-965p-ds3. system booted without any glitch.

basically, on bsd, linux, mac os you don't need to reinstall, as it will reconfigure on the fly (it depends on how smart the device driver loader/detector is).

for example, windows sucks at this point :D

Going from a 965 to another 965 board is kind of a no-brainer that it should work.

Going from 965 to P35, on the other hand, may be somewhat problematic.

And if you run any other OS, you're retarded if you don't reinstall when you upgrade your motherboard. It will cause so many problems down the line.
