ya know...i have never been a microsoft fan, at any point. but if i do recall correctly, they did release a public beta of Vista before it came out. I beg the question why apple does not do the same...

I believe M$ charged $19.99 for people to get the beta. I agree with you, I think Apple should release it, charge $10 and tell them to use it at their own risk. Then have a forum set up for people to leave bugs and problems on (don't want to flood an email address). This HAS to be a benefit, to see bugs that could be produced by LOTS of people. I am sure Apple doesn't have to many of my system left on site (1GHz G4 iMac) but they are out in the real world, and then Apple can get results from people like me as to how well it runs. Someone should set up a petition some where (do those things work?) with this idea!!

OK, well, I am going to bed now....We are on page 33, I wonder what it will be in the morning!

MS didn't charge for the beta. it was free for download, and a few bucks for the disc if you wanted it instead of the ISO.

I know microsoft didnt charge anything, because i got vista beta twice :P AND NOW I HAVE ON MY PC THE OEM VERSION I BOUGHT. I want test leopard on my macbook pro, but ... Its logic, every body, at least developers and computer technicians want to test before buy............. im one of them... :(

being the intelligent company Apple is, i believe that they know that the software will be leaked and they compensate for this. They crack down on people who try to distribute but honestly i don't think at the apple software development exec. meetings in Cupertino that they sit there and say "Well, we are going to make sure that absolutely no one other than the developers we provide the beta to will get it." Privacy is not a feasible proposition in the internet era anyways. I guarantee apple hires people for minimum wage to go onto the forums such as this not just to crack down on the people who are "alleged to have pre-release software" but to also take feedback and input from people who are using the beta software. and hell let's face it, any dumbass can hit the "send error report to apple button" when their app unexpectedly quits and i'm sure a few weeks after the beta is out, after the developers are focusing on creating their software and are just immersed in code, many of the people who used leaked software are providing the error reports needed by Apple about the common avenues that people use when using the software and the bugs they encounter. So I strongly feel that Apple does count on the software to be leaked and to receive anonymous and vital bug information from users who were not ADC members...persay

Gee, with your statement previously one could perhaps get confused and think you were approaching Leopard with a closed-minded type of thing...

"F%*@#k Leopard, and any other OS, stick with Tiger! Leopard is nothing more than Tiger with a new dock and ugly looking semi-transparent menu bar!"

...

Maybe I'm slow or I don't know but I don't understand you.

First you come in and start saying about why do we even care about leopard, that is just another OS with nothing interesting but then you say that you came here to know how good it is

make up your mind

As much as I disagree with his statement, I do agree that the transparent menu bar is very much not "mac-ish" and pushing into vista territory, but I still want leopard for the other features....Why would apple change the menu bar now...after so many years of happy users?
