HolyCrap
there's another topic on this forum with same subject. Too lazy to find the link, however the culprit is into BSD name of network adapters. The program looks for en0 which is the integrated ethernet available on all real Macs. If your network card has a different number, it will quit after loading. Delete (make backup ) /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist and reboot. now one card should be called en0, check on System Profiler I just had to reply to this even though it's a year and a half old and the person who posted it hasn't been here since July of 2007!. I struggled with a Kalyway 10.5.2 install because of this. It only took me a couple times to figure out what was going on, but even at that point I never fully understood what was happening and now, because of this post by yoursagentsmith, I finally do! I have a Dell Inspiron 530 whose onboard NIC wasn't recognized, so I put an OLLLLLD PCI card in and was happy that it worked. Unfortunately, it was a little slow, so I tried another one, and suddenly FCP wouldn't start. It wasn't that clear as the problems were all tied up with a bunch of other issues but I was able to determine that whatever NIC was first used in my system would have to ALWAYS be in my system. I eventually got a USB NIC but since I had my full computer up and running, I had to leave the PCI card in there anyway, just taking up a slot. I did another reinstall and made sure that the USB NIC was the first thing in, but I had problems with the computer shutting down and whatnot AND the USB didn't work in XP either Eventually somebody came up with some kexts for the onboard NIC but they didn't work with my Kalyway install. So, just days ago, I started with an entirely new installation of iATOKOS just because of the repercussions of this problem. With iATKOS I can use the onboard NIC, which will always be installed, and FCP is linked to that. Who knew that I could actually go in and delete a plist and be good to go?!?!? This is great info for the future, so I just wanted to post my longwinded story about why this post rocks!
paisley66
Hi I;m having this problem also I have tried many of the ideas here but none seemr to work I'm guessing it has something to do with AECore. MithrilFox
Alright, I had a problem loading up my FCP as well, crashed before loading all the way. I decided to run Software Update, and it's fixed... works great. Give it a shot. I used the BOOT-132 loader method to install the retail Leopard DVD on my system, so Software Update doesn't scare me .
levonatron
arrgg i tried both things and its still not working! could it be possibly caused by the fact that i do not have a working network driver. the problem i think is that wen i delete networkinterfaces and restart, it is there again. so is there any permanent ways to delete it? Word, I tried everything above and still couldn't get FCP2 working. Then I plugged in a usb wireless card I had, and suddenly it worked.
The Buhce
This will get FCP up and running for sure, unless your graphics card does not support Quartz Extreme. To check this, click the blue apple in the top left of the screen and go to About This Mac, then More Info. Go to graphics/displays and check that Quartz Extreme and Core Image are supported. If not, search this forum for info on how to patch this for your specific graphics card. Some cards work, some may not. After install of Final Cut: 1. uninstall apple qmaster go to spotlight and search "qmaster" delete ALL files it finds 2. Download and install this kext file AppleSMBIOS.kext.zip To do this, unzip and drop the kext file into /system/library/extensions Open terminal and type each line, then hit enter: sudo -s (your password) chown -R root:wheel /system/library/extensions rm /system/library/extenions.kextcache kextcache -k /system/library/extensions reboot Your system will now reboot. On startup, run Final Cut. It should start. If not, change your network config using the above post in this topic. Reboot and it will work for sure. My problem:I installed FCP6 and everything was going fine, but now about a week later, I'll execute FCP6 , the splash screen loads, but then after about 20 seconds crashes out. I also have FCP5, which I have reinstalled and that seems to work without a problem. I do however, need FCP6, for the XDCAM support. So I tried the above solution and it worked but only untill I rebooted. Not only that but boot up times are now much longer. I think a clean install maybe in order for me, but I fear it'll just continue happening.

schizzo p
Guys, this wont help all of you but if FCP starts to load then just quits before drawing canvas, browser etc, it's worth checking that all your music plug-ins are working correctly (AU's, vst). I sometimes have similar experiences to some of you and that's always been the source of my pain.
Fuggy
i've got 2 problems with my OSx86: - iTunes doesn't want to activate me - FCP doesn't start after searching for the problem with itunes, i used followed solution in this thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=81737 after this changes, itunes worked fine and so i go on to my FCP problem; but watch out -> by starting FCP again, it fully starts up and no more crashes when starting. even if this is a little hint for other people having problems with FCP on startup
little machine
My problem:I installed FCP6 and everything was going fine, but now about a week later, I'll execute FCP6 , the splash screen loads, but then after about 20 seconds crashes out. I also have FCP5, which I have reinstalled and that seems to work without a problem. I do however, need FCP6, for the XDCAM support. So I tried the above solution and it worked but only untill I rebooted. Not only that but boot up times are now much longer. I think a clean install maybe in order for me, but I fear it'll just continue happening. hi m8, i did what u quote in that note but theres a problem with rm /system/library/extensions.kextcache - there no file directory i try several time but still same result. so i let it that be. and continue to kextcache -k /system/library/extensions then i reboot. after reboot and log into gray apple logo there out a forbidden logo white top of the apple logo. and i still Failed installing finalcut. i can't find another solution again..please help me.. i despreate here!! RustyShackleford
for anyone having the crash right after all the plugins are loading you MUST have your ethernet card on en0 what happens it that the program "calls Home" to make sure your sn is valid just before drawing the canvas if you go into system preferences and go to network and your ethernet adapter says (en1) by it you must delete that and then go into /library/preferences/systemconfiguration and edit your networkinterfaces plist if it says en1 where its red you must change it to en0 likewise if it says 1 under <key>IOInterfaceUnit</key> you must change it to 0 <key>Active</key> <true/> <key>BSD Name</key> <string>en0</string> <key>IOBuiltin</key> <false/> <key>IOInterfaceType</key> <integer>6</integer> <key>IOInterfaceUnit</key> <integer>0</integer> <key>IOMACAddress</key> <data>AB6Mi5l9</data> <key>IOPathMatch</key> save as to desktop, then replace the old one in /library/preferences/systemconfiguration restart when you restart go into networking dialog and it will say new device detected hook up your card start final cut and i almost guarantee it wont crash. (unless your having plugin issues or something like that)

SoulStriderX
A big big thank you for everyone who replied to this topic. I can confirm thedude9's fix works for Final Cut Pro 7. I had to make my ethernet adapter work first, using AppleYukon.kext Then I removed the NetworkInterface.plist as described Then I followed thedude9's instructions. Thanks a million!
