its done: skippyretard managed to get an realtek alc880 8-channel audio-chip to work, some managed to get it earlyer, seemed to be a matter of the mainboard - but this should work for *all* alc880 users - not only the specific mainboard mentioned there. its working now on my shuttle xp81p.

its done by putting a new value to AppleHDAController

sooo: i finally got my alc880 to work - after 4 month of trying when i tried the following:

EDIT: You get *input* on most mainboards, too, if you put the new value there and *destroying the old*, by *not* putting both values in, as mentioned above. its not found as hd-audio then, but build-in on-board - but who cares? you got input then...

another problem is: how to get all 8 channels to work in both cases (hd-audio and on-board). at the moment, you only get 2 channels.

as parttime musician i would appreciate if someone could help on getting all 8 channels and the optical output to work.

it works with 09 didnt try it on the 111 cause in a few weeks surely 10.4.4 or even 5 comes around.

difference is

1. info is not only for some gux-mainboards but for all with alc880 (and what trouble did we have to get this chip to work...)

2. difference between onboard and azalia/HD audio entry ins osx

3. questions concerning 8 channel and digital-output (optical) - how do we get this to work?

Same thing here, HDA kext from 8F1111 causes kernel panic. The one from 8F1099 works fine, except for volume control. Azalia kext works too, just need to edit Info.plist in the controller plugin and add 0x27D88086.

Motherboard is a MSI 945P Neo Platinum.
