Built a new system using the Intel D945GCCR and installed JaS 10.4.8 which went fine. However, I have no LAN & no sound. I suspect this is because the AppleIntel8255.kext Info.plist does not have the correct product ID.

I have tried 0x27dc, 0x1068, and 0x1092 without success. Could someone please tell me if I'm on the right track and, if you know, the working product ID#?

Thank you very much.

My system is 100% using the Intel 945 GCCR & JaS 10.4.9. It requires using the Intel 8255x.kext and ALC883 files pointed to in this thread.

The difficulty you may have is in locating the correct JaS 10.4.9 update file. I got a bad one and had to lo-level reformat the HDD and zero the disk to get back on the air.

My system is very close to yours. I use a Liteon DVD PATA and WD SATA HDD.

The intermittent behavior that you report suggests a bad or poorly seated cable--probably an HDD cable. I suggest that you reduce your configuration to a single HDD and switch the HDD cables if it continues to misbehave. It should be rock solid.

Good luck!

My Config As Below:

LG DVD Recorder

Seagate 160GB SATA

Intel 945GCCR

2 GB DDR2 533

Pentium 4 3.0Ghz HT

I startup with 10.4.7 format and partition hard drive, than use 10.4.8 for installation. Custom install, pick all the patch ... All works!

I'm seeing a 10.4.8 install issue with my Intel-based system......can anyone help me?

I have a Intel 954GCCR motherboard with 1GB DDR2 and a 160GB Maxtor SATA drive, the DVD drive that I use to install OSX86 10.4.8 is connected to the PATA side of the motherboard. I've partitioned the SATA drive in three equal partitions to have XP, Dream Linux and this Mac OSX86 install on the drive. I have a GRUB boot manager running to boot the XP and Dream Linux, and have added the Mac OSX86 to GRUB.

When I first started out, I had the Mac OSX86 on the second partition of the drive as a primary partition. The Linux and Windows installs were also setup as primary partitions, too, but I started out with OSX86 before the other OSs went on.

When I loaded the OSX86 install on the drive - no ther OSs loaded at that time - I booted from the DVD, erased the partition where the install would reside (disutil eraseVolume "Journaled HFS+" OSX86 disk0s2), the disk erased fine, the instraller saw the disk partition setup, allowed the installer to do its work - including checking the DVD, which it did and checked okay - installed 10.4.8 (looked good while it was installing) and at the VERY end of the install I clicked on the REBOOT button and waited for what seemed like eternity for the system to reboot. After about 1/2 hour I did a forced reboot.

At that point, the system came up with "HFS+ error" (or something to that effect). Got out my laptop, and looked up this error. Did the flags trick to the installation. Same thing, HFS+ error. Tried a few more tricks from the newsgroups - no joy. I finally gave up and installed XP (on the first partition) and Dream Linux on the third. At that point I had a GRUB bootloader and was able to boot the XP and Dream Linux partitions in great shape. Not the OSX86, though - same error.

Now I sit in the same situation - a partition with OSX86 loaded on it that cannot boot for some reason - everything else working okay. I'm now downloading 10.4.9 to see if there's hope I can make that one work. Gee, the tiger 10.4.4 install on VMWare works great under XP, but it's just not the same as a native install.

Anyone with any ideas on what I can do to make this work? Anything I missed during all the installs on my Intel 945GCCR system? Thanks for your help with this!

Many thanks to alexanderH4 for updating me on the JaS install options - that did the trick and now I'm triple-booting XP, Dream Linux and OSX 10.4.8 on one SATA drive. Only fighting the afforementioned 'no sound' and 'no LAN' issues that should be straightforward to fix now -- also have 10.4.9 to play with, too. More to follow......

Ok this is my first post in this area of the forum, hope it helps everyone with the D945GCCR Motherboard no LAN problem. I'm actually using the Ethernet on my custom system now to make this post.

I Spent 8 hours reading and reviewing the forum. I then set out to figure out how to do this, cause most of the steps people have been posting are incomplete. These steps might also work for other model Intel Motherboards with the same LAN port.

I'm currently running a system that started as a Jas 10.4.8, and then was upgraded directly to a KoolKal 10.4.10.

If I sound very specific in my writing, I'm doing so for all the noobs like me.

Ok noobs, print these out so you can follow along, much easier.

Instructions for getting OS to recognize the Built in Ethernet natively.

1. Download the old kext file released with 10.4.3 (found here http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...ost&id=7135

2. Uncompress the file.

3. Copy the uncompressed file to an external drive. Be it an iPod(what I used), a USB Flashdrive, external Hard Drive.

4. Now connect your external drive to your new D945GCCR custom system.

5. Drag the folder "AppleIntel8255x[1].kext 2" from the external drive to the Desktop.

6. Open the folder, inside you will find the old 10.4.3 kext file. and an instructional txt file.

7. Read the txt file, don't do anything just yet continue with these instructions.

8. Open the AppleIntel8255x.kext, then the Contents folder file and locate the info.plist and open that in Text Edit, Text Edit is located in your Applications folder.

9. Now there is a step in the txt file that came with the kext file that is missing in order to get this to work.

10. Edit the info.plist in Text edit, and add 0x10948086 to the end of the string that looks like this:

<string>0x10928086 0x10518086 0x10508086 0x10298086 0x10308086&0xfff0ffff 0x12098086 0x12278086 0x12288086 0x12298086 0x24498086 0x24598086 0x245d8086 0x10608086&0xfff0ffff</string>

11. Add 0x10948086 to the end, should now look like this:

<string>0x10928086 0x10518086 0x10508086 0x10298086 0x10308086&0xfff0ffff 0x12098086 0x12278086 0x12288086 0x12298086 0x24498086 0x24598086 0x245d8086 0x10608086&0xfff0ffff 0x10948086</string>

12. Save the info.plist and close Text Edit.

13. Ok, now that that is out of the way drag the entire AppleIntel8255x.kext file into your /System/Library/Extensions folder.

and Authenticate.

14. locate the the non-functioning AppleIntel8255x.kext in /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleIntel8255x.kext, and delete it. You may need to Authenticate again.

15. Now open Terminal and type in "sudo -s" no quotes and then enter, then enter your password. Note that you will not see the curser move while you type this in. This is normal, just be sure to type in your pass word correctly and hit enter.

16. Then copy and enter each of the following lines:

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel8255x.kext (hit enter)

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel8255x.kext (hit enter)

kextload -v /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel8255x.kext (hit enter)

17. Terminal will now attempt to manually load the kext file. If you see in the string of lines that comes up onto the screen that it loaded successfully, Great! Go to the next step. If not, go back to the beginning of this reply and try again.

18. Upon successful loading of the kext, enter the following command:

rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext (hit enter)

19. Close Terminal, it will ask you if you wish to terminate your session, say yes/hit ok/click enter, I can't remember exaclty what it asks, just comply.

20. Open Disk Utilities and Repair the Permissions

21. Reboot your Custom System.

22. After the OS has restarted, click on the Apple in your menu bar and select System Preferences.

23. In the Preferences Panel open Network, and you should see Built in Ethernet as one of your port options. If it is there Great! If not, try installing the kext again, and be sure to follow all the steps.

24. Configure the Ethernet port according to how you connect to the Internet. I'm running to a Router, so I left it at Automatic Configuration.

25. Open Safari and you should now be able to connected to the outside world using the Built in Ethernet port on your D945GCCR Intel Motherboard.

To be sure I wrote out these steps right I repeated the entire cycle 5 times, and every time I got the OS to recognize and see the Built in Ethernet Port.

Hope this is helps a lot of you out there be you a Master or Noob. ;)

Now to conquer the problem of now Sound Out Put. ;)

Later,
