Brywalker
In short, I have an Nforce4 Shuttle XPS with an A64 Venice. Darwin loader goes and then I get the grey screen with the reboot error. This is during install. I have tried disabling everything I can think of in BIOS and whatnot. Any ideas? Metrogirl
Which install are you doing? 10.4.1 or 10.4.3? Have you patched the install disk? Which version of the patch? Brywalker
Thanks for the quick reply! 10.4.3 patches 1.1 and 1.1a - both do it. I will try it again tomorrow and see if I can get a pic of the -v log but there was a kernel panic and whatnot Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4980-grey-screen-reboot-error-after-darwin-loader/#findComment-31717 Share on other sites
macgirl
Just notice that 10.4.3 has 2 builds already, 8F1099 and 8F1111. The patches works only on the first one. Brywalker
Sorry for the non-descriptness. It is build 8F1099. Here is the hardware for reference. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16856101468 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4980-grey-screen-reboot-error-after-darwin-loader/#findComment-31740 Share on other sites
macgirl
I think it will boot, since the patches have nForce kexts. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4980-grey-screen-reboot-error-after-darwin-loader/#findComment-31754 Share on other sites
-x-
I get the same exact problem. I have a MSI NEO 4 Plat. with a Athlon 64 Venice Core (supports sse3), and a Ati X800XL for video. I have the 10.4.3 8f1099 dmg. Converted it with Ultra ISO to a standard ISO then patched with the Maxxuss DVD-ISO Patcher for 8F1099 v1.1a. Then I burned the iso. When the Darwin loader came up I used the default kernel and it gave me the grey reboot screen. I then tried all the other kernels and the same problem all over again the grey and black reboot screen. Am I missing something here? I ran it in diagnostice and get a no kdp_poll; no debugger device error after a kernel panic. What does that mean? Brywalker
Yeah you think it would boot to the installer at the very least! Not sure what it is here, I of course tried booting to the "lesser" kernels just to see and all come up with the error. "no kdp_poll; no debugger device error after a kernel panic" Yeah that sounds familiar (I am not near the machine to test right now). macgirl
no kdp_poll; no debugger is not an error itself. Look fome lines above, it normaly tells you the error. Also if you can attach a pic will be helpful Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4980-grey-screen-reboot-error-after-darwin-loader/#findComment-31847 Share on other sites
ntux
Same problem here ... I have a nforce3 250 mobo (asus k8n) with sempron64 2600+ (palermo core, but the first revision, without sse3), latest bios, and I got the grey reboot screen immediately after the boot prompt (with every kernel). Using 8f1099 with 1.1a patch. It seems I have a cpu error right after some acpi kext detects the com port (will take a screenshot). :-/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4980-grey-screen-reboot-error-after-darwin-loader/#findComment-31998 Share on other sites
Hagar
It's looking more & more like there is an issue with the nForce3 (& nForce 4?)chipset. I'm sure I read something about this elsewhere on this forum, but I can't seem to find it.. ntux
I've just disabled the serial port in bios, and now the panic ('unexpected kernel hole' or something) comes after two interesting lines: the first is "waiting for uuid =" and some serial code the second is "waiting for " and some xml code relative to a key (uuid ?) EDIT: btw, it worked fine using deadmoo's image, but now with the patched 8f1099, I can't even get the installer to boot. :-/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4980-grey-screen-reboot-error-after-darwin-loader/#findComment-32009 Share on other sites
macgirl
Hit F8 at boot, remember to select adecuate kernel nonx or sse2 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4980-grey-screen-reboot-error-after-darwin-loader/#findComment-32014 Share on other sites
Bing Lax
I am also getting a kernel panic that has says something about the CPU in the first line of many other. I have an Intel chipset so it probably doesnt have to do just with nForce3 sets like other people said. The DVD is 8f1099 is the 1.1a patch and i have tryed all the kernels and turned on and off the bios settings for NX and whatever else i could find. 10.4.1 works fine(other then video and printer)....anyone know whats going on with these panics? ntux
The error I get is exactly like this one, if I use sse2 or nonx kernels (with the orig one it crashes before, as my cpu doesn't support sse3).
