Greetings all,

I'm using the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI motherboard (Motherboard) which as you can see has the RealTek ALC850 onboard sound card.

I installed Mac OS X x86 10.4.8 from the "Mac OS X 10.4.9 Intel SSE3 [JaS 10.4.8 AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 With PPF1 & PPF2.iso + Jas.10.4.9.Combo.Update.Intel.SSE3.zip" torrent from Demon.

After booting up, there is no sound.

I've tried downloading the kext file from http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/3rdPartyDrivers - link 1 in the list.

I've tried modifying the installed kext files - AppleAC97Audio.kext and the AppleAzailia kext to reflect my sound device which Vista reported as:-

Vendor ID: 1102

Device ID: 0007

I've followed every guide possible on this forum regarding ALC850 and to no avail, I've been unable to get my sound working in Mac OS X 10.4.8.

Does anyone have any insight on this that they can share?

Well, for me the sound was ok, without modifications.

But I used the myzar/tubgirl release.

(although in pro audio apps, it isn't very efficient... i don't think coreaudio is supported with realtek onboard; please others correct me if i'm wrong)

It did work when I installed Mac OS X 10.4.6 so I'm not sure what the problem is now...

If you do have the same audio setup, do you mind sending me your driver?

I would help you there, but I just tried to install 10.4.8 on my other computer (same board) but with an 3700+ San Diego (SSE3). But its not booting up. I guess Apple really doesn't like AMD too much since my Core 2 Duo system is almost fully supported. Anyways, I'm guessing you might need to remove a .kext file that is already being loaded that doesn't work then reload the right driver from osx86 wiki. Hope that helps. ^_^

I'll try it and see. I'll remove the AppleAzailia driver and see if it works without it.

:: Latest Update ::

I did an installation using Tubgirl's 10.4.8 AMD DVD and my computer refuses to boot while the hard drive is connected to the computer. It will list all the devices after checking the memory but it stops there and goes no further. This happened after the installation was complete.

Did anyone else have an experience like this?

Does anyone know the solution to this problem?

I also have the MSI neo4 platinum (without SLI) and i have JaS 10.4.8 AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 With PPF1 & PPF2.iso and it works perfectly (except for iCal). The sound came on even during the initial setup (the revolving cube where it asks for ur location/name, etc). I unchecked all sound drivers during installation.

I just noticed that u installed a 10.4.9 update that is for INTEL ONLY!!!!!

and you have AMD so that may be why it isn't working.

Try installing it without the update
