macgirl
Sure, AMD 3200 can run Mac OS X. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4930-help-me-vmware-55-sse-2-and-sse-3-emulation-amd-athlon-xp-3200/#findComment-31369 Share on other sites
Spanky Deluxe
Sure, AMD 3200 can run Mac OS X. An A64 3200 maybe but not an XP 3200. The Athlon XP processors don't have SSE2, which is the base requirement for x86 OS X. johnniecarcinogen
no sse->sse2 emulation. only sse2->sse3 emulation has been done pertaining to OSx86. macgirl
I thought that XP Processors end with 2800. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4930-help-me-vmware-55-sse-2-and-sse-3-emulation-amd-athlon-xp-3200/#findComment-31396 Share on other sites
Spanky Deluxe
I thought that XP Processors end with 2800. The Palomino Core went from 1500+ to 2100+ The Thoroughbred Core went from 1600+ to 2800+ The Thorton Core went from 2000+ to 2400+ The Barton Core went from 2500+ to 3200+ The Athlon 64 chips started at 2800+ as well. There's quite a bit of overlapping going on with the performance ratings of different cores. pyramind
Hi, made a search and found this topic. I want this to be confirmed: I will not be able to boot into MacOS with a non SSE2 compliant CPU EVEN IF I am booting it from VmWare. I mean, VmWare is an x86 Emulator, I guess it should have nothing to do with my CPU specs as it is going to emulate instructions for MY (non-SSE2 compliant) Cpu. If VmWare works, than Macosx should work within it I guess, but i may be wrong. Especially if Vmware emulates just by transmitting instructions from emulated area to my real CPU. So that would mean that it is not going to work. Asking just for clarification: Vmware(on non SSE2-SSE3 processor) + Macos = Failure Someone please confirm. Thanks. Sabr
Athlon XP's don't have SSE2, so you can't install it... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4930-help-me-vmware-55-sse-2-and-sse-3-emulation-amd-athlon-xp-3200/#findComment-83036 Share on other sites
pyramind
Yeah, I know that MAcOs can not be installed and used as native in a non SSE2 sompliant CPU BUT what about the cpu that VmWare Emulates? I am not talking about native usage, just with vmware. cpc197c
I can get to the spinning apple logo, but not any farther. Have an Athlon XP 3200+ and it shows SSE and SSE3, no SSE2. Is there any way to have the OS run off just SSE3? Mabye possible with an SSE2 -> 3 patch? Should'nt affect performance too much going up. Xell
Hi, stumbled across this thread by searching for vmware. In case you didn't know it vmware doesn't emulate any CPU. It just uses the installed one so you're sitting with you're SSE Instruction from your host PC. Elv13
you can run it under pearpc, it will work fine, there is see2 emulation with a patched qemu but it will be slower, alot slower Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4930-help-me-vmware-55-sse-2-and-sse-3-emulation-amd-athlon-xp-3200/#findComment-123884 Share on other sites
