I just bought a Macbook Pro 15" and am trying to get Windows running. I bought a copy of Windows XP Pro with SP2. When trying to install Windows, the installation quits and says it "encountered a hardware problem and stopped the install to prevent damage to the computer." This happens exactly the same in bootcamp and Parallels. I have installed all of the Apple updates for my new machine and the firmware is up to date. Anybody have any ideas as to what is going on?

Thanks

Is the Bootcamp Assistant giving this message, or is coming from inside Windows setup? would think it has something to do with the hard drive. For now try going into Disk Utility and choose "Verify Disk" and check your HDs SMART status. If the disk verify returns errors, you might be able to repair it from your OSX install disk; but if the SMART status is indicating a failure you'll need to take it to an Apple store to have the HD replaced (will be covered under warranty).

Is it two seperate hd's? I dunno how well this applies, i am on hackintosh and when i first tried installing windows i got errors. I got it working by switching the sata cable on the windows drive to the prime sata port on the motherboard. maybe try swapping them out or reintalling vica versa.
