BlackShadowWolf
Hey everyone, I had a question regarding Vista's policy for requiring activation again and ruining the license. I have my Macbook Pro divided up like this.: Partition 1) EFI Partition 2) Mac OS X Partition 3) Windows Vista (c:) Partition 4) Windows XP (d:) I used a wonderful app called NetRestore http://www.bombich.com/software/netrestore.html that allows you to clone a NTFS volume to a disk image for storage, then you can clone it back and it copies all the correct filesystem information and proper data so it can be bootable. Right now, I have a image of XP (D:) and (C:) before I installed Vista, which I called Boot Volume. Now if my Vista installation dies, I can clone the Boot Volume image back to (C:) so it will find and load XP with no problem . I can also restore XP from an image and it has all my apps and settings right where I left off, no more need to waste time installing everything. Now my question is, if I need to clone Vista back to (C:), like if I need to zero my harddrive, will it require me to re-activate? It would be the same machine, hardware etc. I dont think it would, but I just wondered as I have a base image of Vista and I wouldnt want it to be worthless if its true and it kills my activation if i had to restore my harddrive. elviejo
If you clone after the activation, you don't need to activate again. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/48311-netrestore-and-vista-activation/#findComment-346125 Share on other sites
