The gray screen on boot is the problem I have heard of many times online but did not find an official statement saying the solution, so i'm stating it here, in the JaS 10.4.8 AMD Intel Install, take off all video drivers, inlcuding titan and any drivers ATi drivers in most common hardware, infact I would also recomend not installing anything from the most common hardware section. Hope this helps a bunch of people, and if you still get the gray screen after my advice post it here but for the most part this has worked for a lot of people and I hope it works for you!

My install of the JaS 10.4.8 went fine, didn't install any extra stuff, no drivers. But after the basic install and on re-boot got the gray screen. I remember getting this on one of my other Macs (G4's) and was a video problem. So removed the AGP card that came with the system (Nivida but made my Micro-Star #8860) and replaced it with one I had laying around which is an ATI Radeon 64MB. Started up and worked fine! Wahooo! OK, but the display is only 1024x768 but it's a good start.

System Specs:

HP WorkStation XW600

1 - Xeon 2.4, (dual capable board though)

1 Gig Ram

80 Gig IDE

Broadcom Net - Works now after I found the solution on this forum...Thanks! All...

ATI Radeon 64 - 1024X768 - working on this...

Sound - sorry not sure at this moment but, worked right off the bat.

Built in SCSI- well... nope but looking into it...

This is a way to PERMANENTLY get rid off this screen (not -v each time)

It is only annoying & serves no purpose

To turn on Verbose booting, at the Terminal type the following:

sudo nvram boot-args="-v"

Disabling Verbose booting is just as easy:

sudo nvram boot-args=

If you’re curious what the current firmware nvram settings are, type the following:

nvram -p

This was a computer I was experimenting on, but I had to use it for another purpose. So I never was able to get much further than my previous post.

I have been struggling to install iAtkos v5i on my Inspiron 1420 for days upon days now.

I have gone through NUMEROUS problems and "solutions" leading me to my most recent issue.

Upon boot with or without ANY special commands (-v, -x, -f, -legacy etc.) I get a quick

light blue screen followed by a black screen. Recently I realized that if I connected an

external monitor AND boot with -x , I receive a GRAY screen with a movable cursor.

Is there a solution for this issue? If so, will someone please be kind enough to guide me

through this painful dilemma...preferably before my head explodes. lol

;)
