hi,

is it necessary to reformate the complete hdd? that would really suck, because i already installed windows xp and vista. so windows would be erased and i would have to do the whole work again. also, i didn't partitionate the hd with the 10.4.8 cd but with partition magic. why did 10.4.8 write the boot sector?

I don't think will be necessary to format entire disk. Why you don't search for an another boot loader different to the Darwin's version? I use LILO from linux, but I've seen some about a boot loader with the Vista! Install your 10.4.8 and try that option. I'm not sure but I think the MBR is independent from the partition on the discs and It's contents!

Have you tried to boot with the Mac OS on the DVD drive?

hi,

i tried it with the acronis os selector like i'm using now with the 10.8.6 version but it didn't work. it's always saing "no os found" when i set the mac os partition active. why should it be the boot loader, i don't get it. the darwin bootloader, whis is espacially made for that, do not work? is the problem surly because of the bootloader or could it be something else, too?

hi,

no, i have only one harddrive in my computer, which is partitionated in 3 partitions. the first is for win XP, the second for win vista and the third is (or should be :thumbsup_anim: ) for mac os. the thing i don't understand is that the 10.8.4 version works and the 10.8.6 does't work. could it also be the version itself? maybe it is bad? shall i download it again, by another source?

Boot up with the 10.4.6 disk and enter disk utility. There, ONLY format your OS X partition (and make it journaled too). Don't do anything else, just exit and reboot. Then insert your 10.4.8 disc and install. Look here if the problem persists: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=33216
