Hi all.

Since the new CELL processor (on the next-gen console from Sony) is based on PowerPC (3.2ghz), maybe the PS3 in OtherOS mode (which allow you to boot a linux os like ydl, fc, debian or ubuntu via a kboot) is able to boot & install OSX ?

Do someone already tried installing with an untouched OSX DVD ?

Thanks in advance for your answers ^^

Even just having the ability to run Linux makes the PS3 an easy winner over the 360. Perhaps OS X on the PS3 isn't the most realistic of hopes but for sheer outrageous all-in-one coolness, there have to be hackers out there who want to claim that coolness crown!

Actually, given that Linux can boot it should be feasible. Would require alot of modification of the source code - and replacing all the Mac/PC binary-only kernel extensions. Still, the high level software would run fine. Just on the heavily modified Darwin.

I am using an airport terminal and annoyingly it doesn't allow for cutting and pasting but I found an article from 2005 where someone from Sony was saying the PS3 could (I guess 'could' meaning in theory if someone came up with the necessary work-arounds) run Linux or OS X. Various poster then rubbished the idea saying who would buy a games console to run Linux or OS X on? Well, me!
