So I tried to install the following version release of OSX86

JaS.Mac.OS.X.10.4.8.AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3.PPF.1.

I had installed this OS previously on an old P4 after a little research no problems happened

This was also back in 10.4.3 days :) The problem I am running into now is that

My new Machine is a piece of junk / not. I did research on parts and comparisson of price

and I found the best deal was to buy premade and upgrade. Wrong Choice

so I bought a m7650n With the following specs.

CPU: Intel® Core2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86Ghz ( 2 CPUs ) 1066 FSB

Chipset: G965

RAM: 2048 GB @ PC5300 DDR2

BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG

DVD: DVD R-RW +/- hp lightscribe ( SATA )

HDD: 300GB WD ( SATA )

GFX: Nvidia GeForce 7300 GS - This Was Upgraded of course ha ha

MOBO: Asus P5BW-LA ( FULL SATA no IDE to test )

I get a IOUSBMassStorageClass kernal error then following that comes the infamous line

so I have read. "Still waiting for root device"

Please any thoughts let me know. I thought that this version of OSX86 was pre patched with SATA

support. I am a web developer and PC comp tech but have stopped following the project for quite

some time now. Please help.

Thanks Again,

ok, you have the same problem as me(and similar hardware--i have raid). You have multiple viable solutions. You can: (1) Get an external DVD drive(USB) and return it to the store for full refund the next day--this will allow you to boot from that drive, and install from the disk. (2) Do a VMware install(which i don't like at all) and turn it to a native boot. I suggest the former, just be advised, you may have problems finding you HD on sata. The controller is supported, but you may have to change the sata setting to IDE in bios. good luck, pm me if it works.

is there an external DVD drive you recommend? or anyone will work?

also, do you have any more tips on how to install from an external/usb dvd drive to a sata hdd?

thx!!

Mike D, I have a similar HP system (a1640n). Same specs and mobo, seems only the model number is different.

I ordered a Vantec SATA to USB adapter so I can install from my internal DVD drive without buying an external drive.

I will receive it tomorrow and will post here if I have good results.

Ok I received the Vantec adapter. Windows now recognize my DVD as external. I can *theoricaly* boot from the DVD drive. It stops right away saying it cannot find com.apple.Boot.plist but I check and it is on the disk (Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist)

Any thoughts?

wierd. that's very wierd. did boot start reasonably pre-usb(did you get upto still waiting for root device before)? Try burning another copy or version at 1x speed. Weird. I'm am working on getting external USB drive, but they're expensive so if your way works, it'll be better.

Well, it did not work at all. I tried with a SATA dvd drive and than with an IDE dvd drive. Nada. It doesn't want to boot from the dvd. I think I'm going to buy another mobo. Asus Conroe...

I was so close...

I have the same processor and chipset as yours. I also have a SATA that is now running quite nicely.

Do you still have problems? I can tell you what I did, but your post is over a month old and wondering if you still need some input!!!!

If you have information on how you did something, don't ask to tell! Just tell!

I have a P5B deluxe and I have the same exact problem, it says that com.apple.Boot.plist could not be found. I'm planning on buying a IDE/SATA to USB adaptor to fix this problem, but if you have a solution, please share :).

did it work, Marco?

i'm using the same mobo too and get the same results. please let me know how you do the trick to install jas 10.4.8 on p5b deluxe wifi-ap if you succeed. thanks :)

Chapatti, can you post ur directions?

btw, VMWare installs wil not work going straight to native because the sata drivers are not inplace on most DVDs. I have heard that Uphuck 1.3 may work on the ICH8 chipset, adn has the drivers, but we still will need to use VMWare or other DVD reader(USB,IDE on pci...)

i'll look into it, dling now....

thx

It might seem defeatist to some of the hackers out there, but sometimes the easiest thing to do is just buy a PCI or PCIe SATA controller that's supported

I bought a SiliconImage PCIe card and it works great under OSX, Windows and Linux, and it's supported by the BIOS of my computer also

it sure beats banging your head against the wall over your SATA chipset not being supported
