b416
Ok, here is the situation : I had a nice hackintosh installed from Jas 10.4.8 DVD. I run the Liko 10.4.9 updater downloaded from torrent (I did not select the kernel, only the 10.4.9 update). After the reboot I have the ugly "You need to restart your computer. Hold Down the Power button..." message. Ok, I said to myself, let's go back to 10.4.8. So I boot from the DVD, keep everithing selected by default + 10.4.8 Jas Intel and start installing ("upgrading")... and at some point, I think when installing the 10.4.8 kernel, I got the message "There was an error during installation, Try Again" yeah, I would like to keep the data on the disk. Any ideas? But, of course if anything else works, I will reformat that drive and restart from scratch. b416
Well, when I boot from the HD, it says "You need to restart your computer. Hold Down the Power button..." in 4 different languages, that's all. When I try to install 10.4.8 over it, I have "There was an error during installation" and that's all. Is there a log file I should look into? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/45729-fck-im-stuck/#findComment-327115 Share on other sites

Dainix
I, too, ran into this error, and you may have the same problem as I do (which I haven't fixed yet myself). When you get to that point in the installation, search your menu above for the Installer log. It should tell you what happened there. macbrush
ALWAYS do a disk image backup if you're going to do any major (or minor in case of hackintosh) updates to your system. I guess this is kind of common sense since even a slightest change can mess up a hacked system (or even a perfectly health original OS), and spoof! Dainix
Also, on the install error part, this is the error I received: BomFileError 1: Operation not permitted - /Volumes/mac//System/Library/CoreServices/BootX All that this tells me is that there's a weird error in the script somewhere that included an extra slash. b416
Finally, I formated and reinstalled it completely from the Jas 10.4.8 DVD. Then I applied the netkas procedure. Everything went well, I then did the software update (Java, iTunes, X11...). This went well too, so me happy... ...until I find out that this does not seem stable. I started it this morning, went to work, to see that I can't connect. Asked somebody home to do a hard reset; connected then and 10-15 minutes later - crash again. Will see the logs and details this evening... Oh no.... Replying to myself, I know what happened : the computer goes to sleep; I forgot to change the settings after the new install, and by default it goes to sleep after a while... me stupid, sorry Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/45729-fck-im-stuck/#findComment-328037 Share on other sites
