Hey,

I finally had gotten past the "still waiting for root device" message, and was installing OSX 10.4.8 jas when the install seemed to be going extremly slow...

So i left for about 2 hours...I come back and it says "There was a error installing, please try reinstalling".

So I say nuts, and reboot to try a older version of osx (10.4.6) only to find that the computer gets hung up at my BIOS welcome screen, in my case the "PA1 MVP-ATI CROSSFIRE" Screen.

It would not budge from this screen. So I started unhooking stuff to find out that it boots up fine when the hard drive is disconnected, but as soon as i plug it in, it gets stuck again.I have tryed reseting my whole BIOS and tryed moving all the jumpers around on the HD and i get the same outcome.

Any ideas on what could have happend? I cant beleive a failed install would keep a whole system from booting up, and i dont mean like "windows xp" or "osx" i mean the BASE motherboard system wont go anywhere.I cant even reformat the harddrive the way it is now.

Heres my specs if it helps...

Mobo: ECS Elite group PA1-MVP V2.0

Harddrive: Western Digital ATA 80 GB

DVD: Lite On dvd rom drive

Pentium D 3 ghz

Also... I have a sata drive that still works, any ideas on how to get disk utillity to read it? Of course... if its going to do the same thing that it did to my IDE drive then i dont want to mess with it.

Check you RAM and all of your extension cards (I mean, PCI, AGP, etc). Make sure everything is plugged in correctly. Also check the HDD cables and make sure the power supplies are correctly attached.

Go to your BIOS and see your IDE controllers are enabled and if the HDD is automatically recognized (if set to manual, reset to auto). If the HDD shows up in auto detection, then maybe you have to check your boot options.

Finally, check if your HDD is correctly set to MASTER (the little pin in the back).

I tryed replacing the cable... no change. As for other devices, a dvd-rom drive detects fine and boots up, as for testing another hard drive... well i dont have one

I also just re-flashed bios and there was no change... im really beggining to think the hard drive is junk.

connect the hdd to a different computer and see if it does the same, that will rule out the motherboard.

I would if i had another computer... I may just buy another mobo and HD seeing as im having TONS of trouble with this one.

btw. anyone know how to get sata working?
