I have a Dell Dimension 5150 running 10.4.8 flawlessly. I was lucky in that I was able to install OS X with virtually no trouble at all. Although the built-in Intel video supports CI/QE, it's analog and I have a Dell 24" monitor that I'd love to use. I want to get a video card that will work straight out of the box. I've checked the Wiki and came to the conclusion that my best bet is the GIGABYTE GV-RX165P256D-RH Radeon X1650PRO 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Silent-Pipe II Video Card. Anyone out there have some advice for me? Will I be able to run 2 monitors?

Also, I'm thinking of buying a second Serial-ATA hard drive. I should be able to just plug it in a OS X will recognize it?

From what I gathered in the Wiki, the NVIDIA cards weren't plug-n-play. I want something that requires NO mucking around with .kext files and such. Is there an NVIDIA card that will provide me that? Or barring that, what's the least amount of {censored} I have to go through to get a working dual-monitor setup. I have searched the forums and wiki but within a few minutes I'm suffering from information overload.

I recently installed a NVidia FX 6200. All I needed to do was to modify three files with my card's ID number, copy natit in the extensions folder, repair permissions and presto! Not a big deal.

Finding a good tutorial was far from straightforward though, since most of the people write either lenghty but too specific tutorials (just for one card) or too simple (missing crucial steps). But hey, that is the nature of forum threads. I find it best to gather/read as many tutorials/posts as possible and put together my own guide based on that information and of course, common sense.

Good luck,

Based on KasperNL's response, I think I might go for the Asus NVidia 7900GS. I like that it has 2 DVI ports. I presently have 1 DVI and 1 Analog monitor but I'm hoping to get a second 24" Dell soon. Wish me luck.

EDIT: I was just browsing newegg.com and did a search on NVidia 7900GS only to find about a dozen different manufacturers selling a card with that chipset. The prices vary wildly. EVGA sells a card with the same specs as the Asus for $50 less. And the card has awesome reviews. Any reason why I shouldn't go with the EVGA card?

And by the way.. thanks everyone for your input. I couldn't have figured this out without help.
