An Intel Q6600 is essentially double a Core2Duo processor in a single package, saving you the expense and hassle of double socket server boards. I intend to use an Intel D975XBX2 motherboard http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/D975XBX2/index.htm Does anybody have any user experience with Quad core processors and the current 1.4.8/8.8.1 OSX? aqua-mac Posted March 10, 2007 Share Posted March 10, 2007 Hi There, Yes I am typing from a Core 2 Quad in a Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 (See system specs below) Native speed is 2.67 but mine runs happily at 3.2 although it is watercooled and would run much higher. Also as the multiplier on the "Kentsfield" is unlocked (as standard) you don't have to fiddle with the FSB making your system unstable. Works a treat on this board with everything working now. Sound 5.1 Gigabit lan USB fw 4 gigs of 800 memory. See my sig for other details. Atmosfear Posted March 13, 2007 Share Posted March 13, 2007 Great news, as I'm doing heavy duty HD cutting, color correction and compositing, the Quad will make things a lot faster, as I'm already hitting boundaries on number of audio & video tracks, that can be played back without rendering. I'm currently running an E6600 @2.7GHz w/4GB DDR800 on an Abit AW9D-MAX which is stated as quad-compatible.
