I think I have come to my wit's end on getting this x86 {censored} installed!

First, I started off trying to install it on a Dell OptiPlex160 (Pentium III) until I realized it wouldn't run it (needs sse2 or higher).

Then I got it running on my AMD Athlon 64 3200+, but the kernel (10.4.1) was too old so most of the applications for PPC didn't work, including iTunes, Safari would crash left and right.

I tried performing an upgrade from the 10.4.6 ISO i downloaded from torrents...and I kept getting the "bo" boot error...or it would just have a blank screen and stop loading.

Then I read somewhere about how you should install it from a DVD drive that is set as Primary Slave and that it would work that way, so I attempted to install it on my Dell OptiPlex270 P4 HT 2.4 GHz system and got that "b0" boot error again. But this time, when I booted up my System Commander partition editor CD, it couldn't delete the "damaged" partition that 10.4.6 tried to create, and it kept telling me that the drive was trashed. I couldn't remove or add any partitions.

So, then I booted up my Maxtor MaxBlast3 partition tool CD and zeroed the drive out so that I could create partitions again. Thank goodness for MaxBlast3!

Now I am wondering what street I should go down next...

1) Do I go back to installing the Deadmoo 10.4.1 kernel (using the Ubuntu method) on the P4 since I haven't tried that on the P4 yet? (And hoping maybe the apps like iTunes will work)

2) After installing 10.4.1 on the P4, try Upgrading it using the 10.4.6 DVD?

3) Try to find a 10.4.8 ISO somewhere and try that?

4) Say phuck OS X and install my Slackware or red Hat?

I am 'almost' ready to throw in the towel since I have never applied so much time and energy to try and get something to work like I have with this x86. The past 4 days I have worked on this after work and have probably put in about 20 hours worth of sweat and aggrevation.

I think it wouldn't be so bad if I didn't boot into 10.4.6 from the DVD and see how nicely looked and seemed to work...

Hello,

I can understand the frustration you are experiencing... Let's try and tackle the famous bo error on boot.

Alot of time's when you do an upgrade or update rather from an older version to a newer one, alot of unpleasing thing's can happen. Blah Blah Blah!!!!

Anyway's, that lil "bo error" might be because the partition is not set active after the install.

To set it active, boot from your os dvd. When it's done loading, go to terminal.

Here are the step's to marking active.

Type:

sudo -s

hit enter

type passord(you may not have one)

hit enter

fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0

hit enter

flag 1

hit enter

type: y

hit enter

type: quit

type: reboot

P.S. If at any time you have trouble doing this just type: help

good luck

Well, I attempted to activate the partition from System Commander, which is what i have always used in the past, but it was telling me that the partition/drive was damaged so I was not able to activate the partiton.

I ended up zeroing the drive with MaxBlast and figured I would start yet again...

Right now, I am installing the 10.4.1 (Deadmoo) image via DSLinux boot CD, on my Dell optiPlex270 P4 system, while downloading the Jas 10.4.8 Repacked ISO from torrents on my AMD system.

I think once I get the 10.4.8 downloaded, I'll burn it to DVD and then try upgrading the 10.4.1 and see if that works...

Will let you know if all goes well....
