avioli
Hi there, i'm a total newbie in here. i have been using real mac os x for a while, but i wanted to try the x86 hack. So i managed to get the DVD iso image, and did a quick burn of it on a DVD (i checked the md5 - it is a bootable iso) and i want to try it! Good, isn't it? The problem is that I have ONLY one PC - i have winXP on it and I can free 10gb (i think it will be enough) for the osx86. Is there a way i can install the Mac OS X on my second partition without wiping out the XP and the whole hard drive. I have looked at some guides of doing it with another image (in a tar file) and a dvd guide for a totaly new hdd (free of any data), but never found such a guide or just a way i can start doing it for my situation. So... is there anyone that can give me a clue for how to install it without loosing any data on the other partition (the one with the XP on it) and still be able to boot on the second (the one which will be with the OSX)? Is there any chance that the installation of the OSX will screw up the boot login of XP? thanks in advance. V in addition if there is a way of installing it trough vmware... with the dvd instead of other iso files (i don't wanna dl another huge file and read ton of info about how to..)... thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4459-osx-on-a-dvd-and-winxp-on-a-partition-possible/ Share on other sites
avioli
actually, i do not think it's possible ... you first have to install osx (whole windows is wiped out) and after that xp ... i realized that it would be such a case, but i still hope i'll find a way to go around the problem... and not wipe the xp... dannythm
Well, well, I'm not an expert here, but I have Windows Vista, OSx86 and Debian in the same drive, and I didn't lost any data... how? Using the Release 1 DvD..... just free the space and make it a hfs+partition (some partitioners can do it... i did it with the osx partitioner, but if you want to be safe make it hfs+ BEFORE using the DvD) then install it in the hfs+ partition. I use GRUB as boot loader and it works right... search on internet, it may not be hard to do it n_n. Hagar
There are loads of ways to go about setting this up, in short you shrink your windows partition & make a partition for osx86 in the free space, then install on to that.. You could use Partition Magic to resize, & knoppix to create the hfs+ partition, for instance. I did it, i have 5 OS in an only one HD, among them 2 differents installations of OSX86 I'd be very interested to know how your partitions are set up.. what are the 3 other OS'es? Hi Hagar, Well, i have 2 Win XP installations (1st with FAT32 and 2nd with NTFS), 1 MSDOS & 2 with OSX86 (1st with tiger-x86-flat.img & 2nd With DVD installer). I partitioned using Partition Magic 8 and Diskpart (for create HFS+ system). All them are handled by darwin bootloader (My last partition is active, this one have DVD installation, all them are primary). I tried installing it and it completed but then i couldn't load onto Windows so i had to reformat my entire disk (which didn't really have antyhing anyways). I would appreciate your help as I have absolutely no idea about boot loaders or linux/unix/Command line interface type of things.
