naplo
Hi, I'm interessted in the Mac OSX Energy management. I know that it is specific to apple hardware so it can be that it doesn't work very well with for example an Lenovo Thinkpad. But are there some mods or other programms, that will fit the energy management on this hardware again? Maybe it is possible to change the management manually? I'm interessted in buying a Thinkpad R60e and I want to reech a long battery uptime. Thats why I'm interessted in this... prspectiv2
If you're about to plunk down $800 for a new laptop it would make more sense to pick up a refurbished Macbook for $150 more. Same screen size, same amount of ram, but its processor is exponentially faster and you won't have to worry about all the compatibility issues. see link Edited March 7, 2007 by prspectiv2 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44516-energy-management-with-non-apple-hardware/#findComment-318657 Share on other sites
macbrush
I agree with that if you want a laptop running Mac OS X for serious work that depends on battery life, your best bet would be buying a MacBook, or MacBook Pro. Even if you got it working on a non-Apple laptop for 10.4.8, there is no guarantee that it will work on even the next kernel update such as 10.4.9, not to mention the next major update such as 10.5. naplo
The Lenovo Thinkpad R60e costs 799€ in Germany and has a 15" Display (not a 13,3"), 1GB of RAM (not 512mb), and a Core Duo 1,6Ghz but a 80GB Harddrive. I think thats more performance (apart from the cpu) than the refurbished Macbook for 950$. The battery uptime from the Lenovo is over 5h. I think the Macbook is ok at all, but a 13,3" Display is a little bit to small for me. In addition I really want 1Gb of RAM. Do you really think that the Macbook would be the best idea then? postaldave
Do you really think that the Macbook would be the best idea then? i think you are missing their point. if you REALLY want a FULL function production laptop running osX you will have to buy a mac. there a plenty of laptops that run osX very well but that is not what you asked. naplo
I asked about the battery uptime from a Lenovo R60e in Mac OS X. The problem is, that I want to use Windows, Linux and Mac OS X, so an Macbook (especially if it doesn't fit to my hardware requirements) isn't the best choice I think. Maybe I should have said, that I don't use Mac OS X only. My mistake...
