direx
After installing JaS 10.4.8 I rebooted my system in single user mode and successfully applied the AMD CPUID patch. Then I rebooted the system again (verbose) and it seemed to load just fine. It said "/System//Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow: Login Window Application Started" but nothing happened. The odd thing was that I could hear sound in the background and when I randomly clicked with the mouse somewhere or pressed enter I could hear sound again.... But i was still in text mode, nothing happened any more. It just said that the Login Window had started, which seemed strange.. I'm sort of new to Mac, I've used Linux all the years before. Do I have to switch a vt to see anything??? Whats wrong? Sorry, I forgot: HP nx6125 laptop ATI Radeon Xpress 200M 128MB (X200) 1,2 GB RAM Edited March 6, 2007 by direx Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44383-no-login-window-but-i-can-hear-sound/ Share on other sites
WaldMeister
Did you replace the loginwindow with the 10.4.4 loginwindow? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44383-no-login-window-but-i-can-hear-sound/#findComment-317631 Share on other sites
direx
No, I don't think so... Why would/should I do that? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44383-no-login-window-but-i-can-hear-sound/#findComment-317659 Share on other sites
WaldMeister
It seems there's some sort of bug, that makes the 10.4.8 loginwindow crash, the only fix for this for as far i know, is to replace it with the 1 from 10.4.4. direx
OK, i'm working on it. I've downloaded the old Login WIndow App, but how can I transfer it to the Mac install? I can't mount the partition under Linux (hfs+ support enabled, says: "no valid superblock") and i can't mount my usb flash drive(s) in mac os. "mount /dev/disk1s1" always gives me errors, even with a hfs-formatted flash-drive... Ethernet does not work as well... WaldMeister
Do you have Windows installed? You could try MacDrive and replace the file then. The 10.4.8 install DVD also contains the file, you could install it from there. Also you could install it trough single user mode, only thing, i wouldn't know what commands to use. direx
OK, I replaced the entire loginwindow.app, and tried several files - all with the same result: it still does not work. It keeps saying "Login Window Application Started", but nothing happens... What else could be wrong?
