Your RAID array will not work because it's a cheap "soft" RAID (like every on-board RAID controler). This things have as usual just a BIOS.

If you got a RAID Card from Adaptec or 3ware like Eskurza it will probably work because this a fully fonctinal RAID controler. These Cards comes as usual with a own chip & RAM.

thanks, i will prolly back up all my data and just kill the raid....reinstall windows etc....the controllers cost a lot for a good one and so i prolly wont get one of those....i didnt even know the problem with soft-raid

thanks for all the help guys, i am eternally gratefull

Actually, a 'soft' raid or software raid is configured in the os without any hardware level raid implemented, using dynamic disks in windows world, freebsd has geom and vinum, linux has something too i can't recall the name.

most onboard raid controllers are stripped down raid controllers sure, they may lack caching and other features you would get with an expensive add on card.

but i don't think your problem has anything to do with the fact that it is 'a common cheap hardware raid chipset', more likely that osx doesn't support the chipset peroid.
