I've been trying to get 10.4.8 JaS to work in my hp ze5385us for a day and can't because of what I think is a problem with the trackpad. It seems to freeze as soon as it gets to that point. I saw a post regarding disabling the trackpad in the bios, but my laptop doesn't have that option. Is there any other way I can't get 10.4.8 on my laptop? Thanks!!! I've tried putting in both a PS/2 and USB mouse, and it still seems to hang up. The only PS/2 option is "auto" (it disables the trackpad when a PS/2 mouse is inserted) or "both" (both work). I've tried multiple combinations and none of them seem to work. If by unplugging you mean actually taking apart my computer and disconnecting my keyboard and trackpad... I kinda want to shy away from that. Thanks for your help! hecker Posted February 25, 2007 Share Posted February 25, 2007 Some laptop keyboards can be easily removed/lifted. Generally this involves unscrewing or unlatching the keyboard and lifting it (it sounds scary but it's not). If you are able to lift it without much hassle, then you can probable see the flat connecting cables from the keyboard to the Mobo. Unplugging is done by GENTLY pulling the flat cable upwards (or in the direction of the cable) and putting the keyboard back in it's place. You will then have to use an external device, of course. It looks like it's stuck around the cdrom drive. Any suggestions? hecker Posted February 25, 2007 Share Posted February 25, 2007 (edited) Whoa, take it easy with the unscrewing bro! Normally keyboards come off real easy without any need to remove too many screws. Did you manage to find any manual or technical sheets for your laptop? That might help. Try looking around the edges of the keyboard. Sometimes there are small latches you can pull on to release the keyboard. Other laptops have a removable plastic dashboard (just above the keyboard) that you can pull of by gently pulling upwards. Underneath this dashboard are sometimes the keyboard screws. I have never encountered a laptop which I needed force to get apart. Usually these things have a trick to dismantle them. Be patient and observe, bro. You might break something if you don't. I unhooked both the keyboard and trackpad.... and it still hangs at exactly the same place. The error I'm getting is Waiting on <dict ID="0"><key><IOProviderClass</key><StringID="1">UIResources</string><key>IOResourceMatch</key><key><string ID="2">boot-uuid-media</string></dict> any other advice? The only thing I can think of at the moment is plugging in either: 1.- A PS/2 keyboard AND PS/2 Mouse (at the same time) 2.- An USB keyboard AND USB Mouse (at the same time) 3.- Check to see if there are any BIOS updates for your laptop. 4.- Do more research on the error msg. It seems like more of a motherboard problem. I am starting to think this has nothing to do with the keyboard/mouse. Can you give me a full boot log? oneearth Posted May 7, 2007 Share Posted May 7, 2007 well, with my nephew's hp zd7058cl, the keyboard actually is screwed in with a couple screws from the bottom. i think one screw was in the battery bay tucked in a strange nook/corner and the other one, either near the cpu heatsink/fan or in the main memory compartment. so if this hp laptop is similar, then perhaps some screws in the bottom are holding the keyboard snug.
