I am not the most knowledgeable concerning computers, but after reading many tutorials, i believe i can install osx (as well as leaving the currently installed xp) on my laptop on my own. However, I am not sure if my laptop can handle it.

I have a Toshiba Satellite with Intel Celeron M. (420 @1.60 GHz/ 448 MB of Ram)

Here are screenshots of my computers specs:

What I want to do is have my computer be able to dual boot, either windows xp which is currently installed, as well Jas OSX 10.4.8.

Can My laptop handle this?

I would appreciate any and all advice/help.

I've used the 10.4.8 install dvd by Jas on my old satellite 1410-401. A celeron 2.0 ghz with sse2. aside from the lack of hardware graphics accelleration it worked allright.

You have a CPU with sse3 so it should work rather great on your laptop.

However, to have a real osx experience CI and QE are needed..

I dont know which graphics caard you're using, so I cant tell you anything about that..

I appreciate the quick responses! Thank you very much.

As far as graphics cards go- I have an ATI Radeon 200M Series.

I will go ahead an install the Jas then, but before I do if you dont mind explaining,

"if you dont use sata on that ati mobo, it wont be seen by the installer."

Not sure what that means- would you mind explaining? thanks.

I mainly want to use my XP for wireless internet- (I dont believe I can use the os x for this, unless i have an ethernet connection), as well as all the other functions i need to use a computer for. But I am also a fan of music, (dj'ing, remixing, editing songs.) For this reason I would like to use some programs that are better and available only with mac computers. For instance if i use programs such as ableton with the osx, The sound will work with osx, will it not?

Not all sata controllers are recognized out of the box..

If that is the case, the dvd will not 'see' your harddisk and you won't be able to install...

You'll find it out when you load the install-dvd to the point where you have to choose the install partition.

Also you should check out the HCL on osx86project for more info on compatibility...

I installed the tiger-x86-flat.img following everything to the key, and it said that it downloaded. But now when i restart my computer and run darwin, it freezes at the apple screen, and a "no smoking" (you know what I mean the circle with the line threw it" appears, and nothing next, it just stalls here. i used bs=32256 skip=1, should i have used another command, such as the bs=512 skip=63?

Do I need a patch maybe? if so which one and where can i find it(they are not that easy to find)

Im so close, it hurts! So ANyone that can help- much appreciated!

intel PCIC probe: not found

IOPCCard Bridge: start failed

That is a very old way of installing OSX. Why don't you download, if you haven't already, the jas 10.4.8 install dvd? The all you do is pop it in and boot it up. If it see's your Hd then you can install if not then you might be SOL, unless you can install it via an external usb drive. That might be another way to go.

Cheers,
