zerr0x22
Hi all, I have finally managed to install Mac OS X on my custom built machine and its running great. The only problem I'm having is that iLife Apps such as iMovie HD and iDVD sometimes lock up my system and I'm forced to restart. I know that these apps shouldn't be running on non-Mac Hardware, but I don't understand what the problem could be. I narrowed it down to the fact that Mac OS X is telling me I have 2GB Ram installed when in reality i only have one 1GB stick. I also used XBench and received a core of 69.42 and it also told me I have 2048 MB of Physical Ram. I'm just wondering if this could be a result of the ram being DDR2 and the system is just reading it wrong giving me the lock ups or whether it is something else thats giving me problems. Below i listed my specs and thanks a lot in advance for any help. mifki
Im sure you have 2gb, check ur bios screen at boot up. If not, then something is just weird Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/42839-mac-os-x-reading-wrong-amount-of-ram/#findComment-306271 Share on other sites
Sailfish
It's a factor of the kernel. I have 0 Mhz RAM. If you could fix the kernel to report correctly, about 5000 people would be ecstatic. zerr0x22
Hey thanks for all your replies. I'm pretty sure it only 1GB of ram since in Windows XP it was seen as 1GB on the BIOS summary on start up it says 1024 MB so I'm sure i only have 1 GB in there, plus i built the system specifically to know what is put in there lol. Yeah so i am narrowing this down to the kernel misreading the available amount. So far i have been able to make all iLife Apps work by a couple of restarts which i guess did some magic and they are crashing rarely if ever. Thanks a lot for all you help! Once again this community has allowed me to fix my X86 installation Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/42839-mac-os-x-reading-wrong-amount-of-ram/#findComment-306354 Share on other sites
thebeephaha
Mine does this too. Its a bug in the kernel for sure. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/42839-mac-os-x-reading-wrong-amount-of-ram/#findComment-310018 Share on other sites
