My Pci-e x16 slot and my Graphics card are trying to use the same resources and its causing a conflict in vista, vista then loads the generic vga driver and I only get 640x480x4 on my display. This resource config caused no issues in xp.

Try manually assigning the irq for the graphics card its usually 11 i think theyre maybe both trying to use same irq

Dont know what a macs like but on my pc in my bios i can set it there so as the gfx card gets its irq

With a intel mac I have efi for booting mac , with the efi firmware there is a CSM that is really a bios efi module, there is no way to set any settings in the CSM that I know of. I need to do these things from in windows.

Sounds like the problem is that vista is installed on a non plug and play system what i mean is in my bios i have option to set plug and play and the system then assigns everything to an irq , and also on vista xp even some things do share irqs. One other thing you could try tho is to disable 1 of the culprits get gfx installed properly then re enable the 1 you disabled

If I disable the Pci-e slot , then I have no display addapter showing in device manager. I still have the generig vga driver loaded and can change resolutions and get higher color. Tho no acceleration and my native resolution isn't supported.

The CSM is plug and play, my iPod and other plug and play devices show up fine.

I can fix the issue by getting another gig of ram. I wont have any money for that until the summer prob. So this is why I am trying to get some info on how to set them from vista.

How many pci-e x16 slots have you on a mac pro ? reason i ask is that you said before

I would guess that any of the four could be x16 Pci-e if I had the gfx card in another slot tho. So in that case I would have 4 x16 Pci-e slots but only one can run at x16 .

Yeah see what you mean i was just looking at mines here in xp and my card in xp uses irq 16

maybe this program will help you trace it done easier

Just booted in to vista and my card uses exact same resources in vista as it does in xp

This is probably a really dumb question, but I'll ask anyway since I don't have experience with efi. Does efi have options like a good OLD bios? Sometimes reserving an IRQ in the bios for legacy devices helps when it comes to conflicts. Of course turning things on and off in bios' help 2 - especially with vid cards (in a bios you just say don't use the what vid card mostly, except with mine which wont allow me to boot off the AGP on-board vid if I have a PCIe card installed).

Thanks, I learned something LOL.

A few tid-bits:

For an actual EFI shell go here: http://www.intel.com/technology/efi/main_sample.htm

and some more info: http://nak.journalspace.com/?cmd=displayco...amp;entryid=407

Not sure if any of that is useful - Since I don't have any EFI based machine I cant really see whats in all that and at the moment I'm not in the mood for reading 2 much lol. With any luck theres actually something in there to play with that could help assign IRQ's and such.
