I was able to resolve my kernel panic problem by booting into safe mode (-x) and moving the IO80211Family.kext to another location and rebooting. My wireless wasn't working anyway in JaS 10.4.8 so I am ok with moving the kext file. If its your LAN instead of your WAN then I would look around and find patches for the network kext for your particular hardware.
