I am hoping to sell my 1st acer machine (hardly ever used) and put the money towards the new one. De-Rail
If you have the money, you should upgrade to a Core Duo or even a 2 Duo. Celeron like it has been said before, doesn't really cut it these days. On that page, I couldn't really see the exact specs for the wireless or the sound card. You want to pay attention to those as well, or else you'll have a wonderful OSX OS without wireless or sound . Otherwise, it looks like a pretty good machine. You may also want to bump up the ram to a gig if you can. Just my 0.02$ Take care Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41861-help-advice-before-buying-laptop-for-osx86/#findComment-299881 Share on other sites
alduleimi
Hi De-Rail appreciate your comments, here are some more info. - Mobile Intel 940GML Express Chipset - Acer InviLink 802.11b/g Wireless - HDD : ATA/100 - Sound : Intel (Not sure about the model) - Acer ObriCam i am buying this machine from a hypermarket (tesco.com) so i don't really have the option to modify the specs, also as far as i know (correct me if i am wrong) Duo-core processors won't really work on Hackintosh and need to be disabled. I also planning to add another 512MB memory card. De-Rail
I believe you're correct about the dual processors, however if you were ever going to go back to Windows ( ) it might be beneficial to have the core duo, but from what you've said, it's out of your control anyway. I couldn't find anything on your wireless card and OSX86, so its going to be a hit or miss type of thing. If wireless doesn't matter for you then go for it, I'd just be careful as theres a chance it won't work and seen as how I can't find anything when I search the forums, theres a good chance that there won't be a driver anytime soon. Just a word of caution. Also, when you find out the exact sound card model, I'd do a search in the wiki and the forum to see what kind of luck people have had with theirs. Good Luck m8! alduleimi
Hi again, To be honest as the machine comes with Vista i was planning to resize the partition then install Mac OSX to have dual-boot and again i don't really have choice when it comes to laptop specs. Now another question (for real mac lovers) how much a macbook will cost ? i always thought apple machines are cheapr in US is there any other place apart from apple store where you can buy macbook for good price ? i have some friends in US who can buy the laptop and send it to me. My budget is $750 to $800 Max (i still need to pay for shipping to UK) Cheers, alduleimi Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41861-help-advice-before-buying-laptop-for-osx86/#findComment-301245 Share on other sites
