pcampisi14
I'm not to sure which method I should try. My current state of mind is to try this: 1. boot tiger disk 2. open disk utility 3. make 2 partitions 4. name them, bla bla bla (possibility of leaving one as unpartitioned spaced) 5. eject tiger disk 6. boot 10.5 disk install... seems simple enough... i know that there is a boot camp method but I'm sure boot camp will not run on a g4 ibook so... what else can I try if my method doesn't work? Adrian Fogge
Here is what you do, put in your Tiger installation disc. Open Disk Utility Make 2 Partitions, naming one 10.4, one 10.5 for the sake of simplicity. Install 10.4 on the 10.4 partition. When it reboots, let it go through MacBuddy (the post-installation configuration screen), and then reboot. Insert your Leopard DVD. Install Leopard to your 10.5 Partition. When it reboots, let it go through MacBuddy (the post-installation configuration screen). Go into System Preferences, and open Startup Disk, choose the OS that you want to be your Default OS, and choose reboot. Now, nomatter what, when you restart you will always go back to that OS. To get into the other one, you would need to hold Option at boot and select the partition that you want to boot manually. So, you had it right, and that is the only option avaliable to you at the moment, unless you want to start experimenting with Linux, after disabling your Journaling on your existing installation. Then you can just resize your [whatever-currently-installed] OS and then install the other without losing anything.* * Note: The Parted method will usually work, but every once in a while can severely screw up EVERYTHING, making you lose your existing installation with no chance of recovering anything! Either way, make sure that you do backups!
pcampisi14
Thanks a ton dude. I should be done by tuesday or wednesday. The backing up will take a while. I hope that Remote Desktop is supported well under 10.5 because thats going to make my life so much easier for working around the house.
nickg331
yea the only reason people used bootcamp is cause it was non-destructive partitioning... disk utility will erase everything on your drive
Adrian Fogge
I use Remote Desktop with my 344 Server with no issues but haven't tried it under 343. Either way, we will hopefully have a new build on Thursday, at which point you will get the opportunity to install everything all over again!
