hryamzik
10.4.8 intel amd sse2 sse3 beta v2 Well, first of all it's a great step forward - It's the first installer correctly formated the partition. But on the first boot after install cernell panics: (cpu 0 caller ...) unresolved kernel trap. So, my configuration is: CPU Type AMD Athlon 64 3200+, Alias Venice S939. motherboard EP-9NPAJ-3P. I can't find it's description in english (only in russian ), here is the link to EP-9NPAJ info. Well, there are some diferences.... I'll try to list some info: chipset: nVidia nForce4 4x LAN: 1gbit/s Vitess VSC8201 Sound: 6-channel sound controller RealTek ALC655 compatible with AC’97 v2.3 IO Controller: Fintek F71872F LPC I/O My videocard is ati x700 pro 128mb. Seagate baracuda hdd (120gb) I try to install osx on the logical partition. Primary [winxp] *extended \ mac [osx (extended, journaled)] ntfs [logical D in win] I also have some connected usbs and a pci tvtuner. I don't think they can prevent kernel panic, but... =) After installing just jas amd kext kernel panics (see the begining of the post). But it lets to boot in a safe mode (option -x). Adding x11 and some hardware support (well, as far as I can undestend there are no putches for mine) prevents a reboot message after showing some boot process and apple logo, no ask for boot options. What can prevent panic? I've read about 512mb grafic cards (not my case), about ge-force (wrong again) and saw a few words about some pathes. Em... I didn't undestend what and how to pach and where to get a file. =) Can you help me? =) Edited February 8, 2007 by hryamzik Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41467-1048-kernel-panic-or-restart-request-on-amd-any-solutions/ Share on other sites
mragonias
You must install osx86 in a primary partition, not in a extended/logical partition Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41467-1048-kernel-panic-or-restart-request-on-amd-any-solutions/#findComment-296571 Share on other sites
hryamzik
Well, it worked (10.4.5) installed on intel in the same way. Anyway, it boots in safe mode, so I don't think problem is here. Thanks anyway, I'll try another partitioning. primary (xp) primary (mac) extended logical (xp) Well, it can't erase in such a way. hryamzik
3 hours later: The same thing even after installing on an empty drive. And some more problem: on my drive installer can't erase the partition if it's primary, even if it's first on drive and active. The sollution still not found. Guest IanP
Did you install the correct kernal package? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41467-1048-kernel-panic-or-restart-request-on-amd-any-solutions/#findComment-296746 Share on other sites
hryamzik
IanP, it seames to me that yes. You know, on 10.4.8_amd_intel_sse2_sse3_beta_v.2 there's only a choise for amd or intel. I suppose smth wrong with sse3 (my cpu does support it!) becouse I've tried to install my 10.4.5 after prepearing the drive with 10.4.8, and it worked (I've chosen some amd patch), even with sound and lan (lan only after patch)! I've also found another sollution: # MacOS X should now boot. However, it may fail with a kernel panic 'commpage no match on last routine'. If this happens, it's because your CPU doesn't support SSE3 and for some odd reason, the HOTiSO image above doesn't install a suitably patched kernel. If this happens, boot off the MacOS X install DVD. When you reach the installer, choose Utilities=>Terminal. Now type 'cp /mach_kernel /Volumes/Apple\ MacOS\ X/' which copies an AMD and SSE2 patched kernel (the one the installer booted from) over the one on your main system. Reboot. So it coppied successfully but no changes at boot, still panic. Here is more ditialed panic text: ...HUB0: family specific matching fails panic(cpu 0 caller 0x001A3129): Unresolved kernel trap (CPU 0, Type 14=page fault), registers: CR0:..., CR2:..., CR3:..., CR4:... djXtreme
ok quickie from a bit of a mac newbie. I had same problem and did some digging around. Seems that if you have a Nforce based motherboard (which you do), when it probes for a vid card it sees the Nvidia as a GFX card, and panics. (if that indeed makes any sense). I did see a thread with some kind of solution http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=39428 try there, let me know if it works. I have this problem also, however ive not tried the solution yet (dodgy DVDRW that doesnt read Mac disks (but burns them fine) FTW!), so please do let me know GL! hryamzik
/System/Library/Extensions/ Well, it really works. I've simply deleted GeForce.kext. (I have an ati card). Now installing x11. lord_muad_dib, I searched a lot and your post in the simular topic, it wasn't really clear for me. It seamse to me it's a good idea to delete such topics and create a small FAQ, to concentrate there different sollutions. hryamzik
Well, now it boots but I'd like to ask some more questions here, couse I didn't find spesial topics and not sure it's good to start new for them. First of all, I don't have a picture in some video formats and on my webcam, DVD and VLC players fail. I suppose smth wrong with overley, so it's video drivers problems for no picture. Am i right? May that also cause application faltures? And the other silly question is what should I do with automatic updates? I've agreed for it, and had problems with finder - it didn't work and I couldn't repare it, so had to make a new install of the OS. If that way is wrong, how should I update components? For ex x11. =) I saw a topic with update script, but it was wroten for some spesial iso, not shure I could use it (nor script nither iso). I'm realy sory for asking elementary things in non-spesified topic, just let me know where and what to search or to read. =) Thanks a lot for your patient. =) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41467-1048-kernel-panic-or-restart-request-on-amd-any-solutions/#findComment-299320 Share on other sites
