Rez.
Hi, I'm having a problem with installing iLife 06 on my Hackintosh. I'm using OS X 10.4.8 (Jas 10.4.8 SSE2 SSE3 AMD INTEL Release) With Semthex Kernel 8.8.1 Beta 9. I can get Audio working pretty damned good after a clean install (SIS7012 Audio) using the drivers found in the Genius Bar Section of the forums. I can install iLife without any problems at all. However, Upon installing iLife (I Install all Packages BTW), My audio screws up. The first time it happened I had done a bunch of updates from Apple and so was totally lost as to when the problem occured. This is my second install of OS X. After making sure all my drivers were installed and working I then went on to install my applications. After each application install I tried out the Audio and it was working perfectly. All was fine untill I installed iLife 06. I fired up Garageband and loaded a project, Started to play it but all I got was garbled rubish. The best way I could deescribe is as if the track was slowed down to the extreme with pops and squeaks. The same now happens in iTunes. Nothing seems to have changed in System preferences and it still reckognizes an Audio Device. Things I've tried. - I uninstalled the SIS7012 Drivers, Rebooted and Reinstalled them. Nada - I replaced the Kexts with originals from off the Install Disc and then Installed the SIS7012 Drivers. Nada - I used appzapper to get rid of all iLife Apps and prefernces and after a reboot.Nada I really don't want to reinstall again but if I have to, I have to. My problem is, Does any one know why iLife is interfering with system Audio? I'd really like to be able to use Garageband. Thanks for reading. PS: I've already tried to update the kernel using both Hippie and Prasys scripts. I can never boot with the updated kernel and had to switch back to the older one. Rez.
.. The story so far ... After a fresh install, I installed and tweaked all my drivers and then made a backup of the OS X partition. I made a kind of trial and error approach and came up with the following: First off, I tested the audio - It was fine. Then I installed iLife 06 and after the install ended, I tried out the audio - It was fine. I then rebooted and got the scrolling screen of Kexts (The kind of scrolling screen you get after having installed a Kext and repair permissions) The first thing I did after booting was test the audio - Again it was crystal clear. I then opened each app up, Played around for a few moments, Closed the app down and then tested Audio. Here are the results : - iWeb (Open-Close) - Audio Fine - iPhoto (Open-Close) - Audio Fine - iMovie (Open-Close) - Audio Fine - iDVD (Open-Close) - Audio Fine - Garagband !!! After opening Garageband, And playing around in GB for a while - The Audio flaked out. The Instruments worked when I made a new project (The Audio was working) but playing a song in iTunes (While GB was still open) came out garbled. I opened a Nine Inch Nail GB project but that wouldn't play either. System Preferences tells me that 'The Selected Device Has No Output Controls' in the Output Tab. My Audio Device is still present in the list. If no one can help, Can someone atleast point me in the direction of an app for OS X that will monitor an Install similar to to what you find in Windows? It's hard tracking down what the iLife installer is actually doing to cause this. Cheers. munky
If you dont particularly care about garageband, just choose not to install it, and see if your audio is ok. Rez.
Like I said in my original post: I really don't want to reinstall again but if I have to, I have to. My problem is, Does any one know why iLife is interfering with system Audio? I'd really like to be able to use Garageband. equilibriumuk
My onboard sound was messing up on garageband, I think it's just down to the driver/num voices etc. It would work for a while but then stutter and stop all-together. That's one of the reasons why I bought a SBLive USB. I have no problems at all now. guitarist
you wont regret getting an M-Audio firewire/usb device either, or another option. A USB keyboard rocks as well. You'll love making music with GB, I've been having a blast. bless you mang. thunder.scripts
Same exact thing happened to me. I uninstalled Garageband (I used pacifist to remove everything it installs) and still the same problem. Then I went to the MIDI Audio Setup utility (Apps/Utilities) and saw that the output was using 6 channels. My audio card has 6 channels, but OS X has never recognized them. So I set it to Stereo. I couldn't move the volume sliders, so I quit the Audio Setup and opened it again. It was still in Stereo and now I could set the volume for each channel. I quit again, and everything works perfectly now, System Prefs shows the volume slider for the AC97 audio and sound has been working since.
