squimmy
Hi, I've been here before, probably about 6 months ago. Back then, I could get OS X installed, but without QE/CI. Also, thanks to my ATi Xpress motherboard chipset I also had to install it through vmware. It was all pretty painful and resulted in a lost of wasted time. However, since then I've come back, armed with a new hard drive (which I won't be installing onto), a new Ethernet card, and a renewed sense of determination. Well, I'm already confused. Now there is a wealth of new information, almost too much to handle and a bunch of questions that I need to ask. Firstly, i'm thinking of downloading this image with the patch. Will this allow me to install it without VMware? Also, is there any way to get my graphics card, the ATi Sapphire X800GTO² working fully? My specs are: AMD 64 3200+ 1 gig ram Motherboard Name: MSI RS482M2/RX482M2 (MS-7093) Motherboard Chipset: ATI Radeon Xpress 200 ATi Sapphire X800GTO² I am going to be dual booting XP, Linux (SLED), and OS X. Preferably using GRUB as my boot manager as OS Selector, quite frankly sucks. So are there any instructions on how to set GRUB up? Well, thanks for any answers! Dr Forrester
I cheated! I did the DeadMoo VMware image first, which was okay at best. But wanted native. So I got an eide hard drive, checked the wiki (search engine of choice-'OSX86 wiki'),then went through all the revs until I found the most compatible with my hardware(that I know of!) Then, set the jumpers to another master, inserted marklar release and here I am. No grub,no chain0-just F12 right after boot, pick my drive and works great. Good luck-it is WELL worth the effort and research!
squimmy
I need to use grub as I'm installing on the same hard drive as windows. I think my biggest issues are: Getting it natively installed and getting QE/CI working on my graphics card. Well, that's all I hope is the problem. squimmy
AGAHEWFKUYGAWDFYUGKAWFEYUKGFWAKVAWFUKYVAWFLIUBWFIAWFAWF"£"$!"$"!$!^&"G$&Y"^$F!"&^C$"!&^$!"&^F!*"FC!"(&^$"!$ GOD BLOODY DAMNIT! I swear, nothing I do works. I put the dvd in and it takes about half an hour to get the "Language Selection" menu. It takes about 1 minute between me clicking the next button, and anything happening. Well, this obviously isn't happening so I'll do it through vmware, oh I wish. In vmware the partitions doesn't get converted to HFS no matter how many times I click "erase", it just does nothing. So native doesn't work, vmware doesn't work, how the hell am I supposed to get this working?
Dr Forrester
I FULLY understand.Took me three months. And as for right now,my rig died last week.I'm writing from my wifes computer. My suggestions would be: Try another hard drive-that was the kicker for me. No partitions,no extraneous stuff... That way-at least on mine-(it was a Maxtor Eide) the installer saw it,set it up and I was off.Simplified, worked and I was done. Sorry for the delay in responding! Chrish
Format using kill disk gets rid of all and allows you to do a fresh install. Oh and if you have something like 7300 gt will work better or 1950 xt Should only take 15 mins maybe 20 max unless you install all lang packs just install printer drivers you need and don't forget to install x11 and patches.
