dvornik
Most likely your DVD is connected to the Jmicron IDE port and in my case (p5b deluxe) OS X refuses to work from it. I ended up using a USB to IDE adapter for the DVD drive.

dvornik
The problem is the IDE controller (which is where your DVD is probably connected). If you ask me, that Jmicron works like {censored}, not only in OSX86. Maybe somebody knows how to make it work during boot - I don't. Here's a guide that seems to confirm this (that you have to use a USB drive for installation). Actually it also mentions the thedguy Jmicron patch, but I couldn't find it anywhere. You could give it a try if you find it. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=32426 Edited February 2, 2007 by dvornik

68jimmy
Is it possible to use an IDE to SATA converter for the DVD then attach it to one of the 6 SATA ports? This would save having to purchase an external USB DVD or an enclosure at the least?

I ended up going to pcclub and purchasing an internal sata 16x lite-on dvd-rom for $30, plugged it into the 2nd sata port on the mobo and I was able to boot and install Jas 10.4.8 to my maxtor sata on port 1...
