Davidrm
Hey guys, Installed Vista last night, all went smoothly etc. but the problem is the wireless internet drivers, It all works ok except I have the sound skipping problem, the installed drivers are "broadcom" one's. When I try to use the updated atheros drivers, the upgrade goes ok, but it says it "cannot start the device" in device manager. Same happens when I try to install the drivers from the mac drivers cd for it, can not start, anyone have any ideas? Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/40713-vista-wireless-problem/ Share on other sites
Adrian Fogge
Ok, first off, which computer do you have so I can figure out which network card you really have? Secondly, of course you can not use the Atheros drivers for a Broadcom card, or the other way around for that matter. On the Bootcamp Drivers CD, there is a network driver for the Broadcom card and a separate driver for the Atheros card and you need to make sure that you use the right one for your hardware. And, if you decided to go with x64, then you are just SOL for the time being as there is practially no driver support under there. asap18
Isnt it that the core 2 macs use the atheros one while the broadcom is for the regular core duos? Adrian Fogge
Not quite. All of the CoreDuo Macs use a Broadcom chipset (the BCM4311 - the Airport Extreme cards for the past few years). The Mac Pro and iMacs with 802.11n use another Broadcom chipset that I do not remember right now. The Macbooks and Macbook Pros with 802.11n use the Atheros AR5008. Davidrm
It's a 24" iMac C2D with Vista Home Premium 32bit. Had a search for some newer broadcom drivers, came across these: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/NETWORK-C...-41021561.shtml Installed fine, the skipping isn't as bad as before, but is still present Edited February 3, 2007 by Davidrm Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/40713-vista-wireless-problem/#findComment-292781 Share on other sites
erbic
I think the Vista sound-skipping problem has only been resolved with the Atheros AR5008 chipset. Airman Pika linked some new drivers a few posts up that fixed it. As far as the Broadcom chipset goes, I don't think there's a fix. Someone needs to light a fire under Apple, Microsoft, Broadcom, Sigmatel, or all 4 and get them to release wireless and sound drivers for Windows that don't conflict with each other.
