BlackShadowWolf
Hidden deep within the Apple Store, (search for enabler), Apple put out that wonderful software for $1.99 that enables 802.11n on the Core 2 Duo Macs. 802.11n Interestingly, this was also added as part of the information: Do you need the AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler? Before purchasing the 802.11n Enabler software, please check to make sure that your Mac does not already have the 802.11n enabler already installed. * Open Network Utility (found in the Applications > Utilities folder) * Under the Info Tab, choose Network Interface (en1) * In the section "Model: Wireless Network Adapter," if it says (802.11a/b/g/n), you already have the 802.11n enabler installed. If it says (802.11a/b/g), you do not have the 802.11n enabler installed. It makes you wonder if they have been shipping some C2D MacBook Pros that are n-enabled? Regardless, I bought it and it installs, BIG WARNING- Make sure you have the AirportExtreme2007-1 package installed, else it wont let you, and trust me do not try to manually install it, it screwed up my Airport . It apparently only loads a new version of IO80211Family.kext so it seems only software based, not like a firmware upgrade. I found this out because I extracted the BOM from the update and tried to manually install it, restarted and it powered off my Airport so it didnt exist. I had to grab my installation cd and extract the extension using Pacifist to restore it, because apparently the Airport Extreme update also screws up by giving some crazy error message if you try to install it after putting the new extension in. We already knew the AirPort cards were N-capable, just that there was no Apple software for them. Interesting. I don't have a draft-N router, so this would be a waste of two bucks until I actually get one. Nice to know it's out there, though. aqua-mac
Hmm, It won't install on my Core 2 Duo Hackintosh that has a Linksys Wireless n card installed saying "Your computer does not meet the required hardware requirements for this update" The card works nativly at 54g after the Airport 2007 update was installed. Any ideas? Update, I hacked the installer and got it to install, but my Hackintosh stalls at the spinning circle screen. If I safe boot and remove the new enabler kext, the computer boots again but at 54g. TvvqKMZ72bsklauw5
I'm still confused on this enabler patch. I have an iMac Core 2 Duo, which I purchased the day they came out with the Core 2 Duo for it. If I was to buy this patch and enable it, would my Airport card in my iMac work at FULL "N" Wireless? Or, is this enabler just to enable the new AirPort Express Base Station to work with Draft-N? It just sounds weird to me that Apple would release a patch that would physically allow my AirPort card to work at a new level. It's like saying that Apple releases a patch which allows my Processor to work at the same level as a Quad Core 2 Duo...unless I'm misjudging the technical boundaries here. aqua-mac
Yes this will enable your core 2 duo imac to work at draft N speeds, but only if you get a wireless N router.
