DarkRenaud
Hi guys, Like the topic says, I'm a noob when it comes to OSx86 installation. Looking over the availble installation dvds, I see there are a few different ones: 1. Goatsecx 2. JaS 3. HotISO 4. Myzar I would like to know how they compare, or if there is even a difference. Also, from what I read in all your posts, my system should work with OS X, but I will paste its specs below and if you wouldn't mind, could someone look it over just so I can be sure it's compatible? SYSTEM SPECS: CURRENT OPERATING SYSTEM: Windows 2000 Professional, but I have the following others in my vault: 1. All Windows 2000 (pro/server/adv. server/datacenter) 2. All Windows NT (workstation/server/terminal server/enterprise server) 3. Windows XP Professional 4. Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition 5. Windows 95/98/ME CPU: Intel Pentiem-D 805 (SmithField) @ 2.66GHz > Instruction Set: MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, EM64T MoBo: Asus P5VDC-MX Northbridge Chipset: VIA P4M800 PRO Southbridge Chipset: VIA 8251 Graphics: Hercules 3D-Prophet 4000XT (I've been told it would be detected as 'standard VGA' Memory: 512 MB PC3200 DDR RAM LAN: Realtek 8139(A) PCI Fast Ethernet NIC Sound: Onboard AC'97 (Realtek ALC 653) Storage: CD-RW/DVD-RW/HDD > See Below: CDRW = LG CD-RW CED-8080B DVDRW = HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H22N HDD = MAXTOR 4D040H2 40GB Standard 1.44MB 3.5" Floppy Drive I thank all of you in advance for your replies. ---DR Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/40384-help-for-a-noob/ Share on other sites
Jorrel
from the way i see it, i guess u can barely run Mac, since u have Pentium D Processor, i prefer JaS DVD iso for installation the big challenge for you is fixing your hardware like Display, Sound and Network Controllers, well everybody has a problem of that.. including me. consolation
from the way i see it, i guess u can barely run Mac, since u have Pentium D Processor, What do you mean by that!? Pentium Duals work great (and they'd kick the butt of your {censored} sempron). That system is fine, use the latest Jas 10.4.8 release - there is no point installing old versions of os. Remember to select the Via patch during install (select customize). I'd get a better video card that supports CI and is known to work. Enjoy... Ferret-Simpson
I like the Jas 10.4.8 Beta 2 You will have serious problems, mostly because you're on a non-intel board You sound won't work, your video won't be accelerated, and if your lucky, you'll get ATA33 out of your disk controllers. It's gonna be a slow machine. Swap out for a compatible Intel board with Integrated GMA graphics and you'll find life improves no end. Expect to pay any amount up to about $250 for a board, I have no idea of the prices as a Mac/TabletPC user. If you get the intel board, get a real Apple USB Keyboard and mouse, it saves headaches later. consolation
hey don't be mad i didn't say anything wrong with you. was my statement offend you? nah, just found it funny that a someone running os X on 'lil sempron would say that it will barely run on on a much faster CPU... all good you'll get ATA33 out of your disk controllers.I thought that the via issue was resolved? But they are {censored} chipsets...You "might" be able to get sound going, maybe.... anyhow Expect to pay any amount up to about $250 for a board, I have no idea of the prices as a Mac/TabletPC user. you can get a fully compatible ASUS board for $60~70. DarkRenaud
Hey, Thanks all of you... I'm sorry it took a while for me to respond, I had some home issues to deal with. I'm gonna try it with JaS 10.4.8 a little later today and I'll report back as soon as I can as to whether or not it worked. Thanks again. --DR Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/40384-help-for-a-noob/#findComment-289974 Share on other sites
