iMacME
After SEVERAL attempts to install JAS 10.4.8/8.8.1 beta v2 onto my system, i finally managed to get it working properly except for one problem. The network cable to my on board Intel pro 1000 PL network adapter has to be PHYSICALLY unplugged and plugged back in for OSX to recognize that it's connected. Otherwise OSX says the cable is not connected and I have no LAN connection to my network or to the Internet. And no, there is nothing wrong with the cable. The connection light is on both on the adapter and on the switch it's connected to. As well, there is no problems when I boot into Windows, only in OSX. This problem occurs each time I boot into OSX but once initialized, the connection is fine. Yup It does matter, I had those problem with couple of my other TRI Boot computers. They all have XP. And I found that you can fix it be uncheck the following box from your network interface from XP. Give it a try. Abysmal Then, that should consider as driver problem. I had these problem occurs on my Realtek, Netgear..... Some of them can be fix by this. It usually cause the nic not able to detect the cable is being plugged after reboot or hibernated from XP. Some of them you'll need to replace the IONetworkingFamily.kext from somewhere that work for you. Try searching the right solution for your NIC in this forum...Good Luck. Sal
Did you ever find out a solution? I have the same problem. I have to unplug and replug for my networking to work. I also found out that instead of unplugging it, I can make the computer sleep, and after I wake it, the ethernet works again. This is probably a driver problem. spo
try setting the ethernet port speed manually. for example, if it's a 100Mbit switch, set the connection to 100Mbit in the ethernet panel in systempreferences:network:built-in ethernet:ethernet. this is usually a compatibility issue with the switch / router, not the driver. Sal
I've tried setting the speed manually as well, no dice. After some searching, I've noticed that the people having this sort of problem are usually people with Intel controlled 1gb ethernet ports. I wish my sleep function worked, then I would never have to really reboot. My fans stay on when the computer goes to sleep. I guess I can use a supported PCI nic card until we find a solution. guardian06
hi all, i have an p5ld2-vm se (so core duo is supported) and ecerything is fine, recognized as intell lan 10/100 no problems detected from safari, mozilla and limewire, and i have a router so the conection to internet is not so simple, but i never had to configure nothing i love this mobo! maybe your kernel or .kext of lan are not detected from power on, but thats an installation problem i think, i have dual boot with acronis, maybe if u extract the .kext from the dvd works, well good luck Guardian Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/40346-screwy-network-adapter-in-jas-1048881-on-asus-p5ld2-vm-mobo/#findComment-294874 Share on other sites
blackturtleneck
Well, here's another single boot P5LD2-VM with the same problem. I also have a IBM M50 (single boot) with an Intel gigabit nic with a similer problem. Except the IBM has tcp/ip conectivity, but no appletalk, though the status in network preferences says unplugged. I'd say there is something goofy with 10.4.8 and the way it initializes the card. Sal
It's definitely has something to do with 10.4.8/8.8.1 I reverted back to the good old JaS 10.4.6 install DVD and it works fine without having to replug.
