However, if you have files over 20MB, they fragment and OSX can't/won't do anything about it. My Parallels virtual hard disks like to fragment on me. A lot. Volume-level fragmentation happens over time, as well. It can get bad enough that you can't perform simple drive tasks, such as creating a Boot Camp partition. I ran into this a while back. So you can either pay $$ for a defrag utility, or spend 4+ hours backing the HDD up to an external disk and restoring it, which defrags it. Your choice, really. EDIT: I just realized that this is talking about Hackintosh usage. Most of my argument still applies, though.
