Hello guys im here to ask whether my hardware is able to handle mac osx.

this is my hardware.

Cpu: Intel Pentium 4 630 3.0ghz LGA 775 (EMT64 bit SSE, SSE2, SSE3 and MMX)

Mainboard: MSI Neo-V 915pl (intel 915pl and intel ich6 chipsets)

Memory: 1gb (2x 512mb) Kingmax DDR400

Hard Drive(External): External usb hard drive 20gb

Hard Drive(Internal): Seagate Baracuda 80gb IDE and Western Digital Cavier 300gb SATA but i dont want to use either of these drives

Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 6600 256mb PCI-Express

Sound Card: AC97 onboard

Mouse: Logitech MX510

Keyboard: Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard PS/2

i was thinking whether JaS mac os 10.4.6 would be the best choice for my hardware. would i be able to install it on my external 20gb usb hard drive? my bios has full support to boot from a usb device. and would i have to apply patches, fixes or drivers to get it fully functioning?

Hey there,

your computer seems to be fine for this other than the usb hard drive(and i only say this because i dont know if the usb hard drive will work). you will need to find a fix for the Nvidia graphics card to get full acceleration but it does exist and works quite well. good luck!

oh i see.. i really dont feel comfortable dual booting with windows on the same drive it all seems so confusing. even th installation process will be i really have no clue what to do once i get that image. well thats great news my hardware is compatable.

my usb host controllers are be intel thats some info i forgot to add. And the harddrive is a toshiba model number: MK2018GAO.

hi there, you may consider dividing your 300GB SATA into 2 partitions, say, 80G+220G, then 80G for OSX, and 220G for data (FAT32). Now you can put XP into the 80G IDE, and you have a dual OS sytem controlled by BIOS (choose which OS/HDD to boot when system boot up)~~~ USB HDD as a system drive is simply to slooooooooow to use....... Also, JaS 10.4.8 should be your best bet.

yes but is a usb drive compatible with 10.4.8? i think he still wants to know

my 300gb sata is already partitioned into 3 parts 2 of which already have data on them. And one of them partitions are empty that partition is 36gb. but im a bit worried that along teh installation the whole drive will get formatted. and uh oh im 40% on getting jaS 10.4.6 :S yikes.

EDIT: hey can i just install with jaS 10.4.6 and update to 10.4.8? and i am still very concerned about my sata drive being formatted if i choose to install on it. But hey you can get a Note book 2.5" to 3.5" IDE adaptor and use it, wouldn't that solve the lag? and will it be possible to?
