1) You fix this by right-clicking preview.app from your applications directory, selecting "Get Info", and selecting "Open using Rosseta."

I take it you didn't search around for an answer very hardly. This problem is commonplace and the solution has been posted in numerous places. :-/

Prview.app uses some open GL commands and it is not avilable (for this time) on the most x86 machines.

 

Use iPhoto for pictures.

 

I more the video card you use than the machine.

 

Preview works with "Run with Rosetta".

 

Also you can use Safari or QuickTime to view pictures, Safari loads faster than iPhoto.
