hokage-dono
hello, I have recently done a fresh install with JaS 10.4.8 amd/intel sse2/sse3 dvd on my laptop. After some tweaks my ethernet (broadcom 440) works and I am able to change screen resolution (using callisto 003fixed). But now I'm looking for a solution to enable 3D acceleration (opengl/qe/ci) on my graphic card. Its a little bit difficult to find something via research on the forum, so I decided to create a topic. Here is a summary of what is work or not in my laptop : Model : Acer Travelmate 4001WLMI CPU Intel Pentium M 715, 1.5GHz, 400MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache) --> OK but no speedstep RAM 512MB DDR-Ram HDD 60GB Toshiba MK6025GAS CD/DVD DVD Multiburner (supports DVD+R(W), DVD-R(W), etc. but no double-layer DVDs) --> not tested yet Video Card ATI Mobility Radeon 9700, 64MB DDR-Ram, TV-Out and VGA-Out, but no DVI ---> resolution change work but not 3D acceleration Display 15,4\" WXGA, 1280x800 ---> OK WLAN Intel IPW-2200, 54MBit/s ---> KO LAN Broadcom 440 Fast Ethernet 100/10 MBit/s ---> OK PCMCIA 1 Slot ---> Not tested Modem Intel AC97 Softmodem ---> Not tested USB 3x USB 2.0 ---> OK but I have message about "overcurrent condition" Firewire 1x Firewire/IEEE1394 ---> Recognized but not tested Audio Intel 8x0 AC97 ---> OK (out of the box) but some glitches problems Battery ---> KO if anyone have a solution for graphic card, please help me ! p.s. : acpi (speedstep and battery status) would be great too !! pck
You need to change your framebuffer to point at Callisto. It's explained in the Callisto FAQ.html file in the Callisto zip file. It worked for my Mobility 9600! http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...ost&id=7098 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/38013-qeci-ati-mobility-9700/#findComment-271065 Share on other sites

hokage-dono
Ok I'have restored ATI9700* files, changed to CallistoFB in ATI9700GA.plugin, but when I reboot I get a corrupted screen :s:s (not black but garbage). If I boot In safe boot, the screen become normal but it's because ATI9700.kext isn't loaded ! (only Callisto is loaded, I'm in the same situation as before). basically if Callisto and ATI9700 are loaded I get a corrupted screen ... If only Callisto, screen is normal but no QE/CI any suggestion ?? pck
Callisto 3fixed (now added in sig). I tried the other version: Cal8 - hangs at booting with vague pink colors (laptop on drugs!) Cal5 - corrupted screen like you describe Cal6 - not tried (yet) You can try out different versions and settings using this auto-script! ( be sure to check the link for V2 because they are accidentally switched in the topic start) Koverg crashes my system (I believe it's for Ati x600 only) and the script didn't set the framebuffer to CallistoFB correctly, but it's nice to easy test different versions of Callisto Edited January 8, 2007 by pck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/38013-qeci-ati-mobility-9700/#findComment-271327 Share on other sites

hokage-dono
Actually I found that when I want to use CallistoFB, then screen become corrupted. If I change CallistoFB into IONDRVFramebuffer (it's the default frame buffer), then the screen is normal, I can change resolution, but no QE/CI (normal ... I don't use CallistoFB :s) I tried with all version of Callisto : 003fixed : default frame buffer OK, CallistoFB KO 005 : default frame buffer OK, CallistoFB KO 006 : default frame buffer OK, CallistoFB KO 008 : KO with both frame buffer + kernel panic ! (the big STOP picture, but corrupted). maybe I'll try katana soon Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/38013-qeci-ati-mobility-9700/#findComment-271753 Share on other sites
hokage-dono
but I really don't understand how some poeple have mobility 9700 (same as me) working with QE/CI, sometimes out of the box !! and I know that some macbook have ati mobility 9700, so why osx doesn't recognize mine out of the box ? Is it different from mac mobility 9700 ? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/38013-qeci-ati-mobility-9700/#findComment-271755 Share on other sites
pck
Well I think it's a coming thing with QE and CI support that your screen does some weird things. For the most of us it's just some mouse tearing, but it could be worse I guess. QE and CI worked for me out of the box, but couldn't change my resolution. With Callisto I could and it removed the mouse tearing, but it turned of QE and CI support. Setting the framebuffer to CaliistoFB solved all the problems though, except for the mouse tearing coming back I really don't know why it isn't working for you. As far as I understand it works, only your screens is getting distorded. marky
Hi I have a similar problem with my thinkpad t42 laptop. (see http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=37866 which I guess I posted in the wrong forum). QE/CI worked for me out of the box with the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist edit to get 1280x1024 resolution. I tried Callisto 008 so I could get 1680x1050 for an external montior, which works great, but breaks the internal monitor regardless of whether or not I enable QE/CI. I get the garbled kernel panic screen. Marc Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/38013-qeci-ati-mobility-9700/#findComment-271845 Share on other sites
hokage-dono
I think the problem come from ATI9700 kexts from JaS 10.4.8 dvd because in the wiki I see that this card work (sometimes out of the box) with 10.4.6 or 10.4.7. So, can anyone send me ATIRadeon9700 set of Extensions from OSX 10.4.4 and/or 10.4.5 and/or 10.4.6 and/or 10.4.7 (here or via pm or via email) ? Please !!! my email : hokage-dono (at) hotmail (dot) com thanks ! covenant
I'm having the same problem with my x850xt! Installed OSX, did not recognize the card at all, stuck at 1024x768... so I installed Callisto 006, and suddenly I can select resolutions (1600x1200 goodness). Yet, no QE/CI, so I then follow the guidelines to enable the QE/CI, and it comes up with a garbage screen on reboot. Completely corrupted screen, looks like trying to run a monitor beyond spec. It simply DOES NOT work for me, following the exact guidelines. Anyone know what could be causing this and/or any fixes?
