sandmanfvrga
My iBook will be here monday, wish it was today but with the weekend it won't, and I have dial up. Yee haw, but until I get high speed, is there an sleeker/easier way to do dial up/ppp connections in OSX than what comes standard with the OS? I hate Windows, but I give it to Dial Up Networking: you can run the icon to connect, and then it disappears to the tray till you want to disconnect. In OSX, on my old G3 300 mhz PowerPC, you opened the connect tool (can't remember it's name) then connect, the window didn't go away and you had to minimalize it to the dock. Clumbsy really and kind poor on Apple's side. Is there a way to put an icon in my bar at the top of my screen so I can connect and not have windows stay open, it shows me internet activity, and then I can disconnect from the same icon? Thank you. Edited January 5, 2007 by sandmanfvrga Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37757-sleekereasier-was-to-use-dial-up-in-osx/ Share on other sites

Thank you. When you set up your connection with "Internet Connect.app", there will be a check box asking if you want it to "Show status in menu bar". Check that box and you will have access to all you seek in the menu bar. sandmanfvrga
I was on 10.3, so maybe it changed and I never saw that. So you just connect with that icon and go from there? Thanks. It's been like that since oh.. 10.0, actually os 8+ had an icon in the little slide out "control pane" at the bottom - it used to be called remote access. sandmanfvrga
Oh well, I guess I showed my ignorance on that one. But the PowerPC I got was slow and I was SO new to OSX. I really didn't get back into till OSX86 and then I have no dial up modem that works with it. SO, glad to here I can do this.
