I tried to search barely everywhere, but I'm not able to get sound from my soundcard.

Does anyone have experience with working soundmax AD 1981 HD card on HP notebook?

If someone knows how to help, it would be greatly apreciated, as there are lots of users with same problem.

All HW specs can be found in signature.

  • 2 weeks later...

Although my one is IBM Thinkpad X60, there is AD1981HD on it. Hope my way can help

1. Open /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/Info.plist

2. Find "<key>IOHDAudioCodecVendorID</key>"

3. In the next line where IOHDAudioCodecVendorID was found , replace "0x????????" with "0x11d41981"(You may check if your AD1981HD use this devid at Device Manager in Windows)

Finally,in terminal:

sudo -s

cd /System/Library/Extensions

chown -R root:wheel AppleAzaliaAudio.kext

find AppleAzaliaAudio.kext -type d -exec /bin/chmod 0755 {} \;

find AppleAzaliaAudio.kext -type f -exec /bin/chmod 0644 {} \;

cd /System/Library

rm -rf Extensions.mkext Extensions.kextcache

shutdown -r now

On IBMs, there is no problem with this soundcard, problem is, we on HPs can see output in Sys Prefs->sound, but the sound is not comming from anywhere.. mic/headphones/internal speakers..

I think port configuration is different. I have also noticed that mute button is always on on my keyboard...

hey fellas,

same issue here on HP NX9420... used the appleazaliaaudio.kext changed everything...

got the volumeslider in the menu... can see HD Output in Adio/Midi-configuration but get no sound...

by the way Input is not available...

BUT i remember a thread a while about the port configurations - maybe we have to go this direction (it was something with using Linux)

but i'll search for it and come back with some more infos later...

cheers

do you have microsoft UAA driver installed? could you please look in windows system infos for the vendor and dev ID of your UAA Bus? this is the HD Bus...

maybe this one must be added there...

okay guys tried some things and currently trying to use ALCinject together with AppleHDA since we have a HD device

does anybody of you have more detailed knowledge about Pathmapping in AppleHDA.kext?????

here is my linux log, maybe anyone of you knows hows to put it into the info.plist... i'm a little bit stuck because of the AUDIO MIXER and the AUDIO SELECTORS (i assume it's the same) since the mic in for instance connects to an audio selector instead of a mixer... i deleted all dependencies for the additional ports availbale via dockingstation... don't have one yet... also took out the modem audio stuff...

Although my one is IBM Thinkpad X60, there is AD1981HD on it. Hope my way can help

1. Open /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/Info.plist

2. Find "<key>IOHDAudioCodecVendorID</key>"

3. In the next line where IOHDAudioCodecVendorID was found , replace "0x????????" with "0x11d41981"(You may check if your AD1981HD use this devid at Device Manager in Windows)

Finally,in terminal:

sudo -s

cd /System/Library/Extensions

chown -R root:wheel AppleAzaliaAudio.kext

find AppleAzaliaAudio.kext -type d -exec /bin/chmod 0755 {} \;

find AppleAzaliaAudio.kext -type f -exec /bin/chmod 0644 {} \;

cd /System/Library

rm -rf Extensions.mkext Extensions.kextcache

shutdown -r now

I tried this way on my thinkpad 60 with AD1981HD, still have no sound. :wacko:

Analog Devices AD1981HD ven=11d4/dev=1981

Bus ven=8086/dev=27d8

What's wrong with my AD1981HD? Please help!

Is there a mute LED, and is it on? My theory is that the mute LED needs to be "initialized"/switched off, but that's only a theory.

Maybe someone more skilled than me could have a look at how Linux does it:

http://archives.free.net.ph/message/200603...a78cb4c.en.html

http://lxr.free-electrons.com/source/sound.../patch_analog.c

http://people.redhat.com/linville/kernels/...hp-nx6320.patch

yes there's indeed a mute led wich is always on.

i think the led disappears when the right configuration is loaded for the codec.

Then the only ;-) question is how to load the correct configuration...

i have big hopes that HDA patcher will support our soundcard, it uses the codec dump from linux to patch the .kext to get sound output, line in etc.

taruga is adding support for some ADI maybe ours will be included.

btw do youhave your core2duo running on both cores? on mine i have to disable it in bios.

I'm giving big hope in AppleHDA sound driver from taruga.

If you want to use only one core in OSX you can use switch cpus=1 in boot loader(no need to disable dualcore support in bios) or also you can edit com.apple.boot.plist and add this flag there.

My notebook with latest kernel from semthex is very unstable with both cores enabled, so It's global issue.

thanks i did that, but i don't think it's related to semthex kernels, on my laptop i have never been able to use both cores even with the 10.4.6 not even while installing.

in another post, semthex stated it was due to a bad acpi implementation...

I know the sound in my NW8000 is a SoundMax set but not sure if it's the HD chipset. Either way, I have the mute button issue too. When I start up, it's on (red). When I hit it, my system mutes properly and the light goes out. Then it won't ever come back on again even though the button itself still works. Honestly, this is the least of my gripes. My real problem is:

The Headphone jack only partially works. I get sound from my speakers and when I plug in headphones, I get sound from the headphones. However, the speakers don't turn off when I plug the headphones. Kinda defeats the purpose of headphones.

I have no idea if this is getting fixed or not but if someone does... me ruv you rong time.

I've got the same issue - mute led on and no sound.

What I did notice though is that in the Audio Midi Setup utility, the 'M' volume slider is set to 0 and fixed, whilst the left and right (1 + 2) sliders are adjustable.

I'm a tad confused as to the exact nature of my chipset - it's definately an AD1981 (11d41981) as if I do a codec dump on Linux it claims to be a "Analog Devices 1981" - the trouble is, I've tried every other which way of getting sound working and using the Azalia kext is as close as I get to working (It gives me deivces to look at under Audio Midi Setup, and displays volume slider in top bar)

How else can I confirm it's an AD1981HD - In Win XP there's a UAA driver and the device is labelled as "Soundmax HD Audio"?

Any tips? pointers etc?
