BiTRiP
Hi, I got a very weird and annoying problem. Until today I got a very good running system. Almost everything was working. Today I upgraded to better stuff, so I bought a new mobo (Asus P5W Deluxe) together with a nwe cpu (E6600) and new memory. In my old system I had 1 sata drive with windows on port sata1 and a sata drive with osx on port2. My pioneer burner was connected on the IDE port. This situation is actually not changed on the new mobo. Still 1 sata drive on port 1, another drive on port 3 (2 doesn't excist) and my same burner on the Intel ICH7 IDE port. I booted my system with -F -V option and everything was working again! Except my DVD player/burner! It doesn't read ANY cd or dvd anymore and I got a error at boot "Disc Insertion Error" IGNORE or EJECT. How is this possible?? It's still the same drive on also a standard IDE port and OSX does reconize it in system profiler as my Pioneer DVR110 but when I insert a disc I get the error its not readable. I would really appreciate some thoughts about this or offcourse a solution....I allready tried to connect and swap de drives on sata but same prob. Thanks in advance. nylock10
Did you reinstall OSx86 after upgrading? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37108-dvd-burner-cant-readwrite-anymore-disc-insertion-error/#findComment-263872 Share on other sites

BiTRiP
Finally I fixed it !!!!!!! After hours trying things, swapping ports, changing bios settings, trying different bios firmwares etc I decided to reinstall the whole system hoping it would solve my problem...but then I found out that my dvdburner was totally not reading any install-disc anymore and got kernel-panic after a few seconds. It had SAM MULTIMEDIA errors which means the disc is unreadable but I was sure the discs are ok and I tried several. So I started changing jumpers again, removing all unneccerary cables for install etc but still the problem. Finally I found the solution! I used the HDD 80pin cable that came with my mobo instead of using the default 40pin cable that is meant for cdroms. Very weird because the burner is the only device on the cable but now I have a fully working system again without reinstalling BiTRiP Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37108-dvd-burner-cant-readwrite-anymore-disc-insertion-error/#findComment-264102 Share on other sites
