Hi,

Just a quick question guys.

I have a Dell 5150 and it has the Dell A05 bios.

I wanted to know how to boot with the Windows HDD first because since i have installed Mac i have had to disable tha MAC hdd to access windows and my OS selector.

Please help me, if you need more info from me tell me what info you need and i'll try to get it to you

Thanks

Drakhra

Watch your system boot very closely. Look for the BIOS Setup cue. It could be F2 or F4 or F8 or even Delete. Most of the time you have to be really quick too. If you miss... Start over. If it never cues you, go by trial and error. Push the start button and start tapping on the F2. If that doesn't work try the next one. Sooner or later you will get into the BIOS. Get into boot options and change the order of the drives so that the one you want is first or on top. Then typically it is F10 to save and exit and on you go....

Hi, yeah, i got into the bios now but it only lets me change the order of booting. so there is a list it is like:

Hard drives (SATA)

CD-rom

Hard drives (IDE)

Floppy Drive

There doesnt seem to be a way to change the order of the Hdd booting..

Thanks

The list you see is the order of booting. Your SATA drive first, the CD-rom second, etc.

Use the arrow keys to position the big white "bar" (cursor) on the SATA hard drive and hit <Enter>. Select a new device to boot first. I recommend changing the order to the following:

Floppy Drive

CD-rom

Hard drive (IDE)

Hard drive (SATA)

Press F10 to save (F10 is common for most systems, otherwise just press Esc and answer the questions about saving).

i tried it and it doesnt work. it only lets me change the order of devices (Hdd or CD or Floppy) but not the actualy devices, all you can do with them is turn them off or on.

please help. I have DELL BIOS REV A05

thanks

These are shots from an ASROCK board. Each board/bios is a little different but not that much. The first shot (#1)(under the "boot" tab) is like what you described, a list of devices that you can't move or edit. I have my Plextor DVD looked at 1st followed by my WD 500GB Windows Drive. 3rd boot is disabled. What you need to note is below all of that. Hard Disk Drives with the little arrow by it? That is where you go next. Selecting that brings up screen shot (#2). This is a list of the Hard drives on the system. 500GB, 160GB, and 500GB's. In the third screen shot (#3), I have selected the 1st drive (500GB) and it has pulled a list that I can shift it up or down in the priority.

f***, it didnt work, MAAN!

here is my bios (its my friends cam so i didnt know how to switch the flash off):

-STUFF IN BOLD ARE PICTURE NAMES-

First of all i repeatedly click F2 to "enter setup"

The first thing i see is picture "First Menu"

Then i scroll down to "boot sequence" as any normal person would do in this situation and i click "enter/return" on it and recieve this screen: "Boot Sequence". In this menu you can only move device sections, not the actual devices up/down the boot priority list.

So then i scroll down to "Drives" to see what magical goodies i find in here ("Drives List", and when i click "enter/return" i get "Drives List In Menu")

But i am only to be dissapointed because when i click on a drive i only get 1 option - "Only Option When clicking on a drive" pic. BTW my mac drive is turned off bcos it always takes first place infront of my windows drive. <-- this is my problem)

Finally after sheer dissapointment i get to my last menu that says "click me" which is SATA Operation...see the pic.

You can then see the "Rest of my Bios" menu to fiddle about with if you want to.

Pic list is in order 1 going to 7th i think.

Thanks and please reply

they are both 160GB, see screeny #7 and the "drives" list

OK, I know that this is frustrating for you. The PATA is your CD/DVD. I wish I had this BIOS handy to play with. There will be a screen somewhere in there that will list your SATA drives by there model number (see my screeny #2). That sub-list is sortable. I have never seen a BIOS without one but I suppose that its possible that it just doesn't exist. Sort through every line item. Click the plus (+) signs beside them, read every pane to the right with it's options, leave no stone unturned. That is about all I can offer at this time.
